Got home from work today to find one of my 24" sammys is ewedscray. The blue power light comes on but nothing else, no backlight, no self test and certainly no output from the PC! :(

I've raised a service request with Samsung as it's still in warranty until January (luckily!) but are there any non-invasive things I could try to bring it back to life in the mean time?

That's really weird my syncmaster 245 died the other week with exactly the same problem (one monh out of warrenty as well) - power led came on but no life in the screen at all.

My motherboard also died at the same time though so I just figured fried PSU (it's connected to a surge protector).

I'd let the warranty take care of it. It may be a bad power supply (internal) for the monitor. Samsung panels have been known to use cheap capacitors for those in the past, it's not uncommon for them to fail to turn on as a symptom. However, not being a monitor repair person, I couldn't say. You could perhaps call the Display service network (formerly amkotron) who handle Samsung RMAs and ask what the common issue (if there is one) with these monitors is. They might know straight away if you're curious. Not much you can do in the meantime to fix it though, just be thankful they come with a fairly generous warranty.

i've found out the only products that fail on me are made by samsung inc tv's,hard drives, monitors, camera's. i will never buy another samsung product again,i know they do look brilliant but quality isn't.

Just as an update on this. It failed on the Thursday, sorted out the RMA on the friday, by Mon 8th I had a new one. Can't fault the service centre's service.

Their customer support line however is shocking. On the thursday evening I emailed samsung support to start the RMA. They emailed back straight away to say "call this number to arrange a warranty replacement".

I phoned the number, gave the woman my reference and she said, and I quote verbatim, "I see you emailed us yesterday, you've had a response to that, so what's the problem?" in a tone that very much said "Why are you bothering me with this, someone's already dealt with you"

I pointed out that the response said to call, and she was then rude and obstinate throughout taking my details. Then hung up on me after saying "Right, our service centre will contact you on Monday, if they find you damaged it yourself, you will be charged for the replacement". I didn't even get a chance to respond to that before she hung up.

I was very British and polite the entire time, I really don't know what I had done to get that kind of response. :(

Luckily the woman from the service centre was unfailingly polite and helpful.

They told me to go take a running jump over mine thats one month outside warranty.

Needless to say I wont be buying samsung ever again.

It's like they use parts that last just until outside warranty.

I'm no expert on this, but you know, most stuff they make today is pretty crappy ;)
That is, they are not made to last... I'm not sure which brands have the highest fail rates, but I do know that I've been buying other computer/parts that tests claimed to the be the "best quality" just to have them break down on me early... which means I don't really care too much about brand quality as much as warranty time ;)
3 years warranty for a monitor is quite okay in my opinion - but wouldn't buy one with any less.

mm that's put me off was going for the Samsung P2450H 24 on special, what is the benQ service like ? thinking of the BenQ G2420HDBL 24.

Edit: Just realised the samsung has three years warranty so that's not to bad after three years it's usually time for a change for me any way after that time monitors tend to lose there bang by then, well my old 22 Belinea has :)
