I bought an Xbox 360 on Saturday in Meadowhall. On Monday I took my copy of Forza 2 back to the Shrewsbury branch of the place I got it from as the game was unplayable due to numerous marks on the disc causing it to skip and crash.

Today the new copy of Forza died as well and surprise surprise it was again due to marks on the disc. With this in mind I phoned up the shop to ask for a replacement console. Initially the manager said I had to bring everything back in for a complete replacement. After I pointed out that this would mean a new hardrive and plenty of lost data on my part, she suggested I buy a £22 memory card to transfer my data across! Obviously I wasn't happy with this idea and put forward the point that I could have bought many £'s worth of content with microsoft points which would effectively go down the drain. After this she agreed to let me just swap the console.

So, I can't say I'm too impressed so far with my 360 experience - M$ must be loosing a packet with such a shodily built piece of kit. It's not all gloom though as the new unit is considerably quieter than the original. In the dashboard it's virtually silent and the dvd drive is about half the noise at full tilt. Perhaps I just had a dodgy one...

Fingers crossed this one won't screw up....

Why would it go down the drain? You lose nothing. Its tied to your gamertag so you just re download it.

I wasn't sure whether this would be the case but I hit her with it and luckily it made her see my point of view![/QUOTE]

Luckily the shop I bought it from were very good and swapped the console other and replaced the scratched game without a question, new box seems to be fine so far. Was you standing your xbox on its side just out of interest?
Nope, it was always horizontal. I can only assume I was unlucky with the first one and it had a dodgy drive. Fingers crossed this new one will be ok.

heard of a few (purely anecdotal) simply not working out of the box.

such a worrying failure rate.

my brothers second is now on its way back after the muppet didn't read his mail properly.
