I have been looking at a fair few cars over the last few weeks and was rather taken with a new BMW which was sat in the showroom. The salesman gave me a breakdown of the price and it included delivery of the car. I queried the charge and said 'what delivery? it is sat in the show room'.

So whats going on. Should the dealership pay for delivery of a car that has already been delivered? Surely this is the cost of doing business.

In car salsey speak delivery normally means handover to you. Kind of unusual for them to even try and charge you for this, their overhead, their problem.

Tbh I've never even had a charge for delivery when it was being sent a couple of hundred miles, though it was inevitably covered in the negotiated price

Regardless of whether you purchase a vehicle in stock already at the dealer or order a vehicle, which gets built at the factory and is then sent to the dealer there is still a delivery aspect. It's just pre purchase rather than post purchase.

Delivery is from the factory to the dealership and is included in the on the road price. Same with any make of car. It's probably a legal requirement for the advertised on the road price to be split out to show the various parts.

^^ what he said ^^

Also, how much was it as if it was £55 then this is the First Reg Fee that the Government charge but they may call it the delivery charge in the dealership.

I had to pay a delivery fee for a used Ford, something to do with they can't sell the car without doing this delivery thing (basically charging to do all the paperwork)

Been in similar situation, missus wanted a new BMW, price breakdown by the salesman...they wanted £700 for delivery! WTF!!!..how much!?!?!!...

Walked away, ** No swearing or attempting to get round the swearing filter** that! lol

Doesn't really matter what they charge you for the delivery.

I'd be bothered about the overall cost, not how they are juggling numbers about.

It's a charge listed for every new car from every manufacturer! Walking away because of it, just lol. Focus on negotiating total price as it's all that matters.
