It's a horrible system. Volume is not a great idea for measuring. Weight remains the same no matter what the temperature, volume doesn't.

I have a couple of America Test Kitchen cookbooks that a friend got me. Any recipes that I like or want to try have had all the measurements converted. Took ages.

The density difference at household temperatures is meaningless.
