Hi guys so recently i have been blue screening on W10 and i get an error saying "clock_watchdog_timeout" error. I have been doing some research and a lot of people have been saying it could be a hardware error. Could this be my CPU?

System Specification
- Case: Antec 300 Gaming Case
- Power Supply: OCZ ZX Series 650W '80 Plus Gold Certified' Modular Power Supply
- CPU: AMD FX-6 6100 3.30Ghz overclocked to 4.00Ghz
- Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX DDR3 Motherboard
- Cooler: Antec Kuhler H2O 920 CPU Cooler
- RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
- Hard Drive: 500GB HDD
- Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 7850
- Sound: 7.1 Channel Sound (On-Board)
- Optical Drive: LG DVD+/-RW SATA Drive

Is this is something to do with my CPU? could i buy a Z170X, would this work with my build? Also i brought my PC from OcUK in 2011 so its abit outdated and was planning on building a new one anyway, but for the time being if i was to buy a new CPU/mobo and put it in my rig would it work with my current build?

This is what i had in my mind;

If not then im going to give up with this PC as its had its time.

I have hazard. The only thing that changes is that the bluescreen becomes less frequent.
DG i wiped my pc on the weekend hoping for a fix, all my drivers are up to date and have no issue.
Thanks for the replies guys

If the bluescreen is less frequent, it could be the CPU. What are temps like when overclocked? Is there room to increase your CPU voltage? You could try small voltage increases at stock to see if the issue goes away, if that works try the OC with a higher voltage (keeping an eye on temps).

If you bought that CPU/motherboard combo then you'd need new RAM as well - it takes DDR4, you're currently running DDR3.

Current build isn't overheating, is it?

Temperature sits around 38C when overclocked, doesnt really go up or down bar 1 or 2C and never seems to overheat. Also i wasnt sure if DDR3 would be compatible with that mobo bundle as im pretty outdated with all new parts, but i can always buy some new RAM aslong it worked with all my other parts.

Hazard when i get home i will try what you have told me and get back to you. Currently "working".

Your cpu cooler isn't compatible according to its website and you'll need a cooler for the new cpu.. Don't use it without one.

I was getting the same error back and forth with an fx6200. I ended out with an FX6350 in a deal and when I swapped them over I never had the msg again. it turned out the 6200 had a broken pin.

Thanks for the feedback mate!
I have brought the above Ram, CPU, Processor and also purchased my water cooling earlier! So hopefully when my cooler arives tomrrow i will fit it all and hope this fixes the problem. Also another thought could it be anything to do with my HDD, maybe thats faulty? We shall see after i fit new stuff (:

So i am currently in the middle

of installing my new parts, but a big but is that my cooling is massive and doesn't seem to fit the case. I have taken the DVD drive out and it fits in but not how it should. Am i going to need to buy a new case? Any ideas would be very helpful!

Edit; Tower is to small to fit my cooling in by 20mm. Should this do the trick?
