Went to the GP last week due to a couple of unpleasant symptoms in the nether regions which, in conjunction with my father recently being diagnosed with prostate cancer, were causing me concern. He has referred me to see a urologist at Jersey General Hospital (where I'm a manager). A radiologist has just popped in to say I have an urgent ultrasound tomorrow. Just as she left my office I had a call from TCI to advise that I've been booked in for an urgent flexible tube cystoscopy (look it up) initially next Monday but I've had to rebook for the following Monday.

Not sure what is worrying me most from (a) the fact they both used the word urgent; or (b) that I now have a week to stew before a group of people I know and will have to continue see every week are going to stick a tube up my penis. :(

oh man, sorry to hear that

I'm sure everything will be ok, and it's good to get these things checked out. No idea what the procedure entails, but no doubt you won't feel anything, and you never know.....the swelling will give you a bigger willy for a few days :-)

Try and stay calm and relaxed about it, in most cases of possible cancer they tend to try and rush things through as the biggest factor in prognosis and treatment is early detection.

My dad was given an 'urgent' appointment to have an operation on his shoulder, so dont worry too much.

I'm sure you'll have a laugh about it in future. If they are professional and care for you, I'm sure they'd only want you to be ok.

All the best!

I had the tube up the uretha for kidney stones, OK at the time, stings a bit afterwards though. Good luck for the results.

The urgency may be a proactive reaction for the manager of the unit.

Dear god I would not want to be awake for that. (This is not a helpful post)

Health comes first, they will be professional I am sure (This is somewhat helpful)

There are two types of cystoscopy - flexible tube and rigid tube. The former is just local anaesthetic and the latter you would have a general. I'm only having a flexible one so "will be able to watch" - not quite sure why they thought that would be a selling point . I've had the "digital examination" already which has pretty much counted out the prostate cancer side of things but prostatis remains possible (which is what I'm hoping for). But there are also a couple of nastier possibilities. Fingers crossed though!

I guess if they know you/you're 'one of the family', they'll bump you up any queue/get you the best diagnosis ASAP. I wouldn't worry too much about urgency.

That's what I told the wife - coupled with the fact that I'm under the same consultant as my father which would probably bring things forward somewhat.

Jeepers creepers.

I hope it all goes as well as possible!

Getting seen and checked quickly is a positive thing. I can understand it being scary but you're doing the right thing.

The fact you work there might have bu,ped you up the list, so you get to be on the urgent rather than routinue list, so they fit you into first ancellation or first available slot.

Dont worry, be happy you dont have to wait weeks for the same procedure, and have weeks to worry about it.
