hi all just think ive found source of a prob ive been having with my pc.ie lagging jerking in gameplay.

Just been doing a smart scan?(Lsoft active disc scan)
Using Raptor 150gig older model from 06/7.as primary drive and did have 2 seagate 320 gig's in raid 0 but split them so now seperate as did orig have 680i mobo which was known for sata/raid issues? just installed formula rampage.
Anyway raptor comes up with 85% life no bad sectors. But seagate comes back with 56% life.no bad sectors though?.but few others things on health/performance.

Haven't really got the cash to go ssd yet well not on as decent size one.
So really looking to replace with normal Hd's

My usage is mainly gaming.Ive found some veloiraptors 300gig for reasonable price.so to use as main drive if need to change?.And thinking of either F3 samsung or WD black 1TB or anything else you recommend.

My other thought is on in real terms? what benefits does using it in raid 0 give.

Plus would i just be aswell of just getting one of those or others to use instead of a raptor as primary drive or even just as one drive for all?

Plus do the newer sata 6gb's drive offer much if they work on my mobo or with pci card adaptor?

Im just looking at ways round it to see more in way of future proofing etc?
Has had enough of reformat/reinstalling games plus losing stats?
So hoping you guy's can be of some help! cheers anyway.

Normal HDs can't push out data fast enough to make use of 6Gb/s SATA, even most SSDs don't get halfway.
RAID 0 has the benefit of doubling HD speed with 2 drives (double the slowest drive). Disadvantage is that when one drive fails, all data is gone.
Future proofing is a myth :D
I think the solution really depends on what your budget is, the price you can get the raptors, and how much space you need in total.
If it were me, I'd get a small (32/40GB) SSD for the OS and as many HDs as I could and RAID 5 them as a games drive. I'd also use another HD for downloads and other slow stuff, helps keep the other drives clean and non fragmented :)
That's the setup I almost have (I don't have RAID 5 yet but do have a separate games drive, SSD and slowstuff drive).

Hi thanks for getting back.my C'drive has atmo 60gb onit.as apart from vista.theres team speak/xfire/razer for mouse gear/logitech'k'board/saitek.H'set&C'pad/then theres asus gear for mobo&sound card etc/plus some other things?so not sure what i could chuck onto D+ drives? my games etc are on D'drive. As i said it was orig 0 raided but did show up as jbod in bios?but when split up they had to be reformatted.(i did get pc 2nd hand)
I mostly just game and just browse net etc usual tat like FB and bits and pieces.not really doing downloading well deff not music and like sort of things? but if did would put on other drive.do have space for 4 in bay.found 300gb vele raptor for £140. it's just do i use for C drive or game drives? has was thinking of getting one as C.drive if it needs to be replaced and other ie F3 or WD etc as my D'drive.
Looked at the WD 6GB/s 64mb cache and says seek time sim to raptors? can get a pci card for sata3 if i needed to?
My budget atmo is about 4 dirty buttons and a broken zip? lol. no got some gear to sell off to finance it.It's just finding out best options?
Plus as lot's if you say raid they cough and splutter and make a funny noise@rear? most bods don't know/understand about it is more of the problem?.
But thats one of the things i like on this forum most guys are very knowledgeable and helpfull plus one or more have been in a sim situation!
