Death Part Deux

I didn't really give a specific scenario. But as I said, I'd kill as many as needed - adult or child. There are plenty more out there and I'm selfish.

Exactly, there are billions of people in this world who aren't me and only one who is, therefore I'm much more important than anyone else to me.

For all those saying how easy they would find it to kill someone I am quite worried.

The ops question does not place the killing in any sort of context so to answer so freely is very worrying.

Would you kill a new born baby to save your own life?
Would you happily murder a child who is crying and pleading and begging?

To kill someone (in cold blood) takes a lot more than people think and the effects on the individual can be worse than dying.

Far too many fantasists in this thread

I would hope if it ever came to it i would not sacrifice innocent people for myself... not really something you can state until the situation happens though

as for killing off one person to save many i think i would, but the decision would haunt me

i dont think i could ever kill anyone in cold blood, if someone came at me with a knife and i had a gun though i dont think i would really have any hesitation in shooting them, odd that

I'm sure I could kill someone quite easily, but I'm not sure how I would feel afterwards.

As for the trolley thing? I'd probably take my shopping out first.

Kill or be killed. rather simple. I like being alive so would kill as many as i had to, jackie chan style with ladders and household appliances as my tools.

I've thought about this before and I know it wouldn't be that difficult. Considering I have no morals at all, I wouldn't even lose a minutes sleep over it if I killed somebody!
I hold the same kind of view, if someones trying to kill me, **** em!! i would have more sympathy for a rabbit i accidentally ran over.

That would change if i was directly responsible for the person wanting to kill me in the first place, in that situation i dont know what i would do but i certainly wouldnt want to kill them

I suppose there are actually a lot of situations i wouldnt hold the same view as the one i had in the first paragraph, that really only applies when some random punk im walking past in the street tries to stab me

People as in adults? Any day. Children on the other hand, that would be a lot more difficult. Unless of course they are those mini-chav types.

A different take on this... the trolley problem.

The problem is this:
A trolley is running out of control down a track. In its path are 5 people who have been tied to the track by a mad philosopher. Fortunately, you can flip a switch which will lead the trolley down a different track to safety. Unfortunately, there is a single person tied to that track. Should you flip the switch?

Next, consider this...

As before, a trolley is hurtling down a track towards five people. You are on a bridge under which it will pass, and you can stop it by dropping a heavy weight in front of it. As it happens, there is a very fat man next to you - your only way to stop the trolley is to push him over the bridge and onto the track, killing him to save five. Should you proceed?

Finally, in light of your answers to the previous dilemmas, how would you answer this...

A brilliant transplant surgeon has five patients, each in need of a different organ, each of whom will die without that organ. Unfortunately, there are no organs available to perform any of these five transplant operations. A healthy young traveler, just passing through the city the doctor works in, comes in for a routine checkup. In the course of doing the checkup, the doctor discovers that his organs are compatible with all five of his dying patients. Suppose further that if the young man were to disappear, no-one would suspect the doctor.

Did your answers change between the scenarios?

How come its ok to kill the guy on the track to save the 5 but not to lob the fat guy in the way? amounts to the same thing really, same for the organs.
