Debating getting a new pump

I bought a EK kit about a yeah ago that came with a DCP 4.0 pump. Its been a fantastic kit, but i've been getting increasingly more annoyed with the volume of the pump. it vibrates quite a lot too (to the point where i can hear it in my kitchen downstairs). Its also by far the loudest thing in my case - even with all the fans on full whack.

I'd like a pump and reservoir combination (to save on space and ease of install). Can anyone recommend a quite pump/res combo thats powerful enough to cool my rig (see signature). i'll probably be buying another 680 at some point this year too. Radiator wise im using a EK 360mm and a 140mm hardware labs GT stealth. Thanks in advance.

Probably looking at the XSPC D5 bay res combo, turn the pump down to 1-2 should have next to no vibration :)

Yep, the D5 has a little dial on the rear of the pump ranging from 1 - 5, 1 being the slowest speed and 5 being the fastest, the majority of users usually stick it at around the 2-3 mark.

I have heard quite a few people say it vibrates and creates an annoying sound so couldn't really recommend it.

I would personally be looking at the Swiftech PWM DDC pump.

That IMO entirely depends on the pump speed setting and the case its in, if its a good solid case it shouldn't rattle off of anything - that said I haven't used the res my self so I couldn't say for sure.

Im using a HAF-X, IMO a good case (could have been a great case with a few tiny changes...)

I've got a bit of time to make up my mind. I have had no experience with XSPC before so i don't know what they're like.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a drive bay reservoir, although that would make it considerably easier to install and maintain.

I like the looks of some of the pump tops EK make... this looked good to me my only concern being that the reservoir is a bit small.

I would think again about the D5 twinned with a HAF -X.

Although a great pump, this is the only way i can stop the annoying vibration that resonates through the case at any setting over 1.

Hi, have a look at one of these a Swiftech MCP35X + top res, using one my self PWM controled, no problems at all, the hotter the temps the faster the pump goes. :)

yup same, was deffo not that quiet for me. sent back & replaced it with Laing 18W DDC with top. great pump.

I have a D5 with the new EK top, anything above 2 is annoyingly audible and its sitting on a shoggy sandwich. People who say that their inaudible at any speed are usually using a number of performance fans that drown it out.

Well a D5 at any setting is audible, but not as much as other pumps(DDC).
Properly decoupled pump can run very quietly.
I have a D5 suspended with the tubing it is connected to.

There is no adjustment built in to the DDC's as it is with the D5 Vario. Whether you can control a DDC with a fan controller I am unsure

There are ways to control a DDC pump with a fan controller( I have done it with an Aquaero 5 LT, but there are others that work)
But just get a MCP35x and you can have PWM control built in!
Small size(same as DDC) + PWM - Win Win

Get a D5 with mount, Get a small tube res, mount the res direct on top of the D5 using a male to male connector. You'll have the quiet pump res combo.

I that's how I have I have my pump and res setup up at the moment. With the pump connected directly to the underside of an ek tube res via a male to male 1/4".

do the pump tops really make much difference?

With a DDC pump, an aftermarket top will make a huge difference!
D5 pump tops are mostly the same.
