Debit Card Help

Hey

My mum's Intelligent Finance debit card won't let me buy stuff from OcUk, due to an irregular spending pattern, I narrowed this down to the fact that she's never purchased computer hardware with it.

So I'm just wondering, if i ring up and pay over the phone with her card will the bank let me do it?

They shouldn't. Only the cardholder should be allowed to use the details. So she could do it for you

Yeah I know, but will the bank let her, or will it still be an irregular spending pattern and she'll have to ring them up to remove this...

Because she's in work, and won't do it until she gets home, and then it will be too late it to be dispatched and delivered tomorrow. And I need to tomorrow.

I suspect she will now have to ring the bank to make any further transactions on that card

Something similar happened to me a couple of days ago when I tried to purchase something from OCUK. As I had been using the card a lot they had flagged it, so I simply had to call my bank and they went through my previous purchased and confirmed that I had tried to use it at OCUK.
A few minutes later it was unblocked and free to use.

That's correct. The cardholder will have to call her bank to confirm spending patterns and any recent rejected attempts to use it.

Are you in trouble now?

No I gave her the cash yesterday, i wanted the card by tomorrow

If there's no way for your mother to call up the bank now to unblock it, you won't be able to use it and unless you pay for a saturday delivery, you won't get your card either...Sorry!

Why don't you put the cash in your own bank and use your card?
I mean if you're earning enough to buy computer parts you've gotta have a bank right?

I'm only 15, in 7 days days i get a debit card

and i don't earn any money, Dad gave me the funds for birthday.

I highly doubt her bank will say "Hm, even though we refused a payment to this company earlier today, he's using the phone now! Let's go for it!"

You're going to call up OC with your mum's card (which has already been declined) and try to do it manually even though (a) it's clearly not your card and (b) it didn't work the first time?

Might work, web transactions shift liability to the issuer (like chip and pin) so they're more picky, mail / phone is liabiltiy with the retailer though so banks often aren't so careful (imho).

Right first of all, Yes I did ring up, and spoke to "Yewen" who knew it wasn't my card, as he tried to resolve the issue with me last night, he was really helpful, and a got 50% shipping voucher. And he confirmed that It's because the bank either don't want that much money leaving, or because my mother doesn't normally buy computer hardware.
