To cut a long story short, I have worked my sorry student arse labouring all summer (see, not all of us are lazy scroungers! :p ) and finally have 2k of hard earned cash in my account, to buy an uber PC with.

This probably sounds really stupid, but is there a limit to how much you can spend on a debit card buying things online? I want to order the parts tommorow, but I have never purchased anything worth much with my card before, so just wanted to make sure it would go through fine.

nope no limit as long as the money is in.

I spent £1200 on my laptop the other day on my switch card (student account)

as long as you dont go and spend like 7grand on something, the bank might check this if they can be bothered lol

spend spend spend !!!!

Might I suggest using the 2k to fund your studies as opposed to getting a PC, it's always cheaper to spend your own money than borrow someone else's

I once spent £8K on a car using a debit card.

All went through fine but I had to phone up the bank to confirm it.

Your 100% right, but I already pay my own tuition fees etc :)

There are Debit Card limits, but 2k wont hit it - the average on your everyday basic card is around £30,000 Per day.

2K might flag as an unusual transaction, so let the bank know first.

Other then that, its all good

It depends on the bank. For Natwest/RBS that amount would almost certainly be a referral, and would require the company to contact their authorising bank.

I paid £14k on my switch card once and the bank didn't even question it. (it's not like I spend that much on my card everyday so I would've expected them to want to check it out)

Spent £13860 last week on new car using Natwest card, had a slight problem.
Not from my bank but the dealer floor limit was only £10000 on a debit card.

Which i found funny because the salesman was embrassed by it all :D

i used to use my summers to save cash for upgrades, not all of us students have debts only the muppets who cant organise their finances.

shouldnt be a problem used to do it all the time :)
