This one's interesting!

The website can be found here:
https://www.deca.net/decagear/

A lot of sceptism on Reddit due to the features and price, set to be $449.99 for the first batch. (I think first batch only?) Features:

They have a LinkedIn as well:
https://www.linkedin.com/company/megadodo-simulation-games/

Their Discord server was raided and spammed with all sorts after this was posted on Reddit. The project manager eventually came on and seemed a really nice bloke - had no problems answering the barrage of questions. I summarised them in a post on Reddit here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualrea...set_inside_out_tracking_hip_tracking/g9pnwex/

My take, awful website and not-so-great YouTube videos (albeit informative) but it seems to be like a tech startup company who have no idea how to market anything.

Anyway, I thought sod it and put $10 down to get in the first batch. Hopefully I don't have to chargeback.

Impressive specs for the money, but having been through the wringer with Pimax I would strongly recommend people wait for end user reviews before stumping up the money on this one.

Them being based in Singapore, you'll have little to no recourse if it arrives and doesn't actually work.

Those controllers look great - like the glorious lovechild of Index knuckles and oculus touch.

Given they've come out of nowhere I'm going to be cautious on this one and let others take the plunge first, but in theory it looks pretty awesome for the money and what they are claiming.

Will be interesting to see more details on the wireless solution, seems crazy cheap for a decent sized battery pack and wireless solution (unless the wireless is already built into the headset and the battery is literally just a battery?).

Edit - I see the answer on reddit, the wifi component is built in through the XR2 platform so it is indeed just a battery pack. Interesting... If they are using the full capability of the XR2 and have WiFi 6E then that could be pretty damn good.

If they can pull this off it looks like a contender for a Quest competitor. The main issue though itsn't hardware, it's software. Oculus have invested millions into the tracking systems and other underlying software that run their headsets and give such a good experience. Its this that sets them apart from the competition. (Though the hardware is incredible at the price too).

It isn't standalone though, so not really a direct Quest 2 competitor... it would only compete with the quest in the segment where people were buying the Quest 2 as just a cheaper pure PCVR headset.

Bit odd perhaps given the XR2 base, but it seems they aren't using it to provide a standalone headset. They are using it for the tracking/wireless features. He mentions the possibility of 5G providing effective standalone capability in the future (though that would be edge computing rather than standalone technically I guess).

Edit - also it looks like that's a more or less "at cost" pre-order price, so expect the finished retail available product to cost more. Will be interesting what price point it comes in at then, I wonder how many people will take the punt now with an unknown company to lock in their discount.

Given it's a PCVR headset only, and will probably end up costing roughly the same as the G2 I'd say this is an Index/G2 competitor more than a Quest 2 one. The addition of the WiFi link capability is a really interesting one to throw into that arena, perhaps it will spur the others to actually bring wireless adaptors to market - I know Valve claimed to have had the problem solved a while back.

Megadodo was a the company who published The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in the radio series and book of the same name. I imagine Douglas Adams might have words with them if he were still around.

As far as looks go, the headset does look like the Index and the Quest had a baby.

I haven't watched it all, nice to see the guys behind it and all their prototypes - at least we know something exists and it's not imaginary!

I get the impression things are all still quite early at the moment (don't yet know how narrow they can get the IPD, new lenses not yet tried etc, everything seems to be 3d printed prototypes, they haven't even decided on chipset etc etc). I just don't see how they will hit their target of May next year when they still don't even have locked down design goals. They even admit the date is "wishful thinking" lol.

Very exciting headset though, I will definitely be following the development.

Yeah this sounds like Pimax all over again, they said they'd release the 8KX within 1 year and it ended up taking them over 3 years. And then it was crap and doesn't work anyway.

At least these guys are only scamming people for $10.

But what I've learnt from buying headsets is that if it doesn't have a big name behind it, wait for other end users to actually have it and for it to be available to buy in your country, buying stuff direct out of Asia is so pointless you may as well just burn the money.

for sure, but MRTV is definitely reliable.
Hahaha, you mean the guy that bigged up Pimax until they threatened him with an NDA and then turned in to a G2 salesman tagging all of his videos with affiliate links... Erm, yeah, I would wait on other people's opinions as his changes on a daily basis based on who is giving him free stuff
