DecaGear - PCVR Headset with facial tracking, hip navigation and wireless coming May 2021

Virtually every podcast i listen to has fallen in to that bracket though andy, it's not just him. The VR scene being the size that it is means of the few that get sent the latest gear, they hype it beyond scope to gain as much traction toward their channel.

It saddens me that there's not a decent topical VR audio podcast out there now that isn't just promotion of the latest tech with the nailed on promise of receiving more.

I don't think his credibility is really relevant either way - he has no more knowledge than us, he just interviewed the guys.

Even when he gets a pre-production headset to "review" as I saw was suggested, it could be a brilliant headset and he could give completely genuine and trustworthy praise, but there is still no guarantee the company will deliver and not vanish into production hell and he has no ability to predict that.

I generally quite liked what I saw the the interview, but given where they currently appear to be at (and having had some small experience of getting a product to market) you can colour me amazed if they manage to get a finished headset out on schedule in the current climate. I would be really quite surprised to see this before Autumn at best (if indeed it ever actually materialises and is worth getting at all!).

I wish them the best of luck, and can't blame anyone for plonking down just 10 bucks to secure an option... it's a very compelling product if they can deliver.

Sorry, just want to revive this thread. It seems that this is going somewhere after all. I joined up to the mailing list to keep in touch with development. Didn't pay anything to the kickstarter and I am beginning to think I should have.

Anyway, I got an email from them last week about the DecaMove. It went on pre-order today. So I decided to buy one. It works with any headset and is already supported in a lot of different games. It might be a bit of gamble but it should give me some idea of what the final quality of the headset will be like.

Going to take a month or so to arrive. I hate waiting.

Sorry here is a link.

Just ordered one for use with my Index, and then later, hopefully I can use it with the Quest 2. Hip tracking will make a huge difference for all those stick locomotion games where you need to aim and look in different directions.

I'm probably being thick, but can't you just turn your head one way and point your gun (or whatever) the other?

Depends on the game you are playing.

IF have it setup that you move where you are looking you can't look around while moving, so you can't look at what you are shooting at and move in a different direction.

If you have it setup so that move whatever the direction the thumbstick goes, then you can look and move in different directions but in some games it's tricky especially if you are using two handed weapons.

Games like Skyrim where you have a shield in one hand and a sword in the other can get confused over which direction you're moving when in combat if you're using hand oriented movement, due to you having to raise or lower the weapon/shield.

Reaching over your shoulder while moving (unsheathing weapons, accessing inventory) can also cause you to switch movement directions.

Like motion controllers I imagine it's only once you used it that you realise how useful it is.

don't you just counter the movement with the direction on the controller? :/ it's not hard.... looking right and want to move forward? push left.

You can, but it's not a natural feeling. The point is to get a more natural locomotion method that works better than hand or head movment orientation.

So, was supposed to come out in May, now slated for Q1 2022, price now $700?
And after the first batch they are not going to make any more but sell an OS to other hmd makers?

I don't get it, but glad I steered clear of this one.

I imagine the component shortage and supply chain issues has hit them pretty hard. Their business model might have been ok pre-covid, but now is unviable.

I have their decamove, and it's a pretty nice device. Certainly not vapourware.

yeah I bet they are having problems sourcing parts

Still it could end up being the best wireless HMD on the market and we've no concrete info on Valve Deckard that could be 2yrs away for all we know.

I'm expecting HTC to release an upgraded wireless module sometime soon but of course that will suffer price inflation if it ever arrives.
