On the latest wheeler dealers where they have a competition to win a jaguar xk8 - Ed used a new machine service to decarbon the engine.

Does anyone know where this can be done or it is a new thing that has just started?

Would it be any use to a 2001 car?

id be amazed if it needed it within the cylinder bores

engine management is meant to make sure the mixture is sensible so doesnt coke everything

the only hard carbon id expect you to find is burnt oil in the sump and coating in the insides of the engines

did jags have stupid 20k interval servicing to attract fleet buyers?

Decarbon engines? You haven't needed to de-coke engines since about 1955 :p

I can't see the picture due to the firewall, but I can guarantee it's an exception to the rule.

Anyway, you know exactly what I meant. It's not routine maintenance to have to take the head off and decoke it :D

yeah EGR's are the main reason for the crud thats in modern diesel engines
its surprising how much crud you can get in a short space of time
its not in the combustion chambers as in the old days, its the intakes that get clogged
