Decent alternative to isopropyl alcohol?

1,365 posts and you still don't know about the sig OR the competitor rules? 9 lives, tbh ;) :D

the sig im leaving there as it is, if they want to be anal over a few bytes then fine , im just not going to care to make a nice sig. :)

regarding the competitor rules, i was just helpng someone out with information, and wanted to supply a link to a product he needed. a product not sold here.

Cutshaw , Drop in at your local chemist and see if they will order some for you.

Paid about £5-£7 , if memory serves me correctly, for 500ml some years ago.

Superdrug actually managed to get me some. It's only 70%, though. Is that enough? I've read that it should really be 90% and over.

Any decent chemist should be able to provide you with a bottle. I actually got a bottle of it whilst I was in Spain last year as it was only a few euros, no help to you I know :)

I'm struggling to get my hands on it round my way. I've read about people using all kinds of things, but they all seemed shady at best. Acetone, lighter fluid, even vodka. That sounds pretty grim. I'm determined to make a better job of my last build, which I sort of threw together, and temps were never right. Anyone have any ideas? Or should I just get some online and have to wait on it arriving?

In the real world cleaning solvent is not going to make any difference to your temperatures ie. not even a 0.1 degree. So what will make a difference flatness of cooler base and cpu ,pressure of contact ,cooler design and case air flow.

I got the stock paste off the heatsink, and I used an credit card. Now, it feels smooth to the touch, but the card has left pretty significant marking on the base of the heatsink. I've given it the old one-two with IPA and a lens cloth, should I be concerned about the marks left behind?

I have used all sorts of stuff but my favorite is by far the stuff I clean my glasses with.

Comes in a box with 100's of small smooth paper sheets covered in alcohol of some sort. Two pieces to wipe it all clean.

Not sure what it costs in UK - 1£ for a box with 100 sheets perhaps.

For the sake of a couple of quid, why not just buy the proper stuff to get the job done correctly and end the endless debate. Articlean and surface purifer to ensure a smooth and contaminent free surface.
