I need to replace front brake discs and pads in the near future so have been looking around at prices and brands

im not overly clued up on what brands are good and which to avoid, but with the car being the wifes taxi for our kids i dont want to make a mistake of buying rubbish ones from the bay that will suffer terrible fade but at the same time i dont want to spend a fortune on them

so what brands & retailers should i be looking at please ?

Thanks :)

Why not just get OE?

How is your wife ferrying kids about going to generate brake fade? Unless they go to school on the Nurburgring....????

Do you know much about brakes?

I'd just get something from EBC (bog standard range), PAGID (usually found at euro car parts) or go OEM.

I don't think brake fade will become an issue.

Do you know what brake fade is?

I seriously doubt your wife would get it from carting the kids about.

But I may be wrong, in which case grab some AP Racing 4pots and get the brake fluid purged and chuck some dot 5.1 fluid in.

Edit: Seriously though, just go to your local motorfactors give them your reg and they will sort out the discs/pads. Don't go OE with Renault as it will cost you a fortune, unless you are under warrantee.

I Recon a set of APEC discs and pads for the front would be around £70 all in.

Id seen some VECO ones on the bay , a decent price for discs and pads (£60 inc)

Blimey pal you ought to chill out.

I was just highlighting you going against your own advice. You knew all along that £60 for a set of brakes from eBay is just too cheap considering postage costs would be around £10 due to weight.

It's a crap car.

Fit whatever is on ebay and it will stop just fine. It's pieces of steel at the end of the day.

Or go to GSF/eurocar parts and get whatever is cheapest there.

It's a crap car.

It may not be the most exciting car in the world but it still has the task of ferrying around some of the most important people in the world t the open, so saying "its a crap car" doesn't exactly justify risking their safety potentially.

That being said, I tend to go for the cheapest possible discs but I think long and hard about the pad choice. something like pagid pads and ebay discs would be my choice on a workhorse.

I'd personally just stick to the original Renault items. They won't be too pricy for this model and will do the job just fine.

Or if you want to save a few quid just get the pattern part or whatever they are called equivilents.

What I actually meant was it's hardly a ferrari. It doesn't need OMGZ racing discs etc.

Stuff from ebay and/or the others i mentioned will be just as good as anything else...

In fact typing this into a well known auction site: renault megane 1.5 brakes reveals the first link as front discs and pads at £50 delivered - bargain.

I bought a set of of discs from ebay on the Astra, recommended, and a set of decent pads. They were rubbish, needed to be warm to give any decent bite.

Get some decent parts, OEM or slightly better. No need to go to extents, but stay away from no name ebay crap.
