Hi

Looking to get a decent camera for the GF to take on holiday to Brazil next month.

I have a Nikon D80 and a load of goodies that I'll be taking, but I think we need something a bit smaller too, as sometimes it will be impractical or unsafe for me to use mine all the time.

She has experience with using SLRs, which is what she would really like, but she can't afford to buy one at the moment, and I can't really afford to buy one for her, so wondering if a bridge over a P&S would be a good idea?

Any suggestions welcome :)

Thanks

What's the budget?

In the £100 region I would be looking at something like the Fuji S5700, if it's closer to £200 I have seen a 'graded' D40 + Kit lens for £210.

Have a look at the Fujifilms FinePix F30, the ability to take almost total control over the A/S settings is great (only downside I feel is the lack of IS).

hmmmm If I am gonna get her any SLR, it's gonna be a Nikon so we can share lenses (plus she has only ever used Nikons).... I have a kit 18-135 that I was planning to replace with some 18-70 or something, so if I gave her the 18-135, what's the least I could pay for a decent used Nikon body? (Probably looking D40x or thereabouts)... Am I looking as much as £200 for a D50? I was thinking more around £100 max really :/

At the moment she doesn't even have a P&S (Well, she does but it is beyond crap), so was looking at the P&S, maybe bridge route, as I thought it might be better all-round... i.e. if she is out with friends, etc etc (and she is happy to use my D80 whenever she wants to handle some big equipment(!!) )
