Decent cooking without an oven

I already have to eat out during lunch hours now, if I start doing it in the evenings I'll just be hemorrhaging money. D:
Interesting. You say you save a fiver a day on commuting but then admit you're losing that because presumably you can't prepare lunches at home and have to buy them out. I bet it's hard to find a decent lunch for under a fiver. Not only that but I bet you'll soon start spending more and more evenings out, and hence spending more money anyway.

Each to their own. I live in west London too and accept the excessive cost, but there's no way I'd be happy in a room like that. I used to share a double room (bigger than yours) in a 5 bedroom house in Ealing with a lovely garden, massive lounge and kitchen and that was only £450/month. Sure, housemates can be annoying but the benefits (cooking/eating properly, outdoor space, socially) far outweigh that. Not to over-dramatise, but I'd personally be worried about my health and mental state in such a confined space.

I feel I over-exaggerated: back in uni I'd budget roughly £1 or less per meal, so it just feels like a step up. Usually I can get away with a £2 lunch from the local Tesco Express, but when everyone else in the office is heading to the Hammersmith food market on a Thursday, it's hard to decline the walk to get away from the desk. I don't really go out that much in the evenings.

I've lived in smaller. Maybe after a couple of years I might feel the urge to upgrade, though.

Look into a worktop oven. Something like a Remoska would do you good, can do anything you do in an oven.

Slow Cooker and Microwave Grill sound like the way to go to me. Also get a Steamer, it might be a bit bland but you can live healthily and cheaply on steamed veggies and white fish. (Avoid oily fish in such a small room apart from tinned sardines).

TBH as a student I lived on Lentils and Toasties for a long time.

I have one of those worktop cookers with 2 hobs on top that you can have if you collect from Mitcham...trust me if you're interested :)

Edit: It'll probably need a damn good clean but I believe it works...
