Hey guys,

I don't want to spend stupid money, but I want good results.

I need ideally a 10 stop, but knowing they are 'lolcost' I've decided to opt for an 8 stop and simply extend the exposure a little longer.

It's going to have to be 77mm to fit le L glass, something that isn't cheap so I won't get any borders or light leaks but doesn't break the bank either. As I can't see myself using this overly much, and will probably sell it when I get back from Iceland.

So folk, what say you? :)

Thanks,
Jake

Hmm I think for this the Lee System may be overkill...yes I will be using it a lot on this one week...however, something like the linked above will do nicely.

Will keep my eyes pealed on TP :)

Hey Gaffer,

Not going to go the welding glass route...this is going to be an almost once in a lifetime trip for me. So a proper filter system it is.

Thanks,
Jake

£1.58 I got it for in the end, the one you linked me to was 23 day delivered!

USELESS!!! :p

Make sure you get a good circular polariser. That doubles up as a 2 stop ND filter anyway. If you are a re shooting a modern body then ISO 50 is very good, combined with stopping down to f/16 you are going to get a plenty long enough exposure for most shots like waterfalls, streams etc. and it should be long enough for oceans shots as the sun sets.

Like lens, filters are expensive but depreciate slowly. Look second hand and you may find that over a 5 years period you have barely lost any money if you need to resell it.

A circ polariser as well as the 10stop? o.0

Or am I being a noob?

It's ok guys, Gaffer is lending me a 10 stop screw on :)

If I find I miss it when I get back, I'll pick myself one up. :)

I don't in general, really use filters as such as mainly my work is people.

We are getting the 10 stop ND's for long exposures in Iceland Daytime, so it's very specific for that job.

I should get a CPL incase we come across any areas where it has large but shallow pockets of water. Hmm, will investigate. Haven't had one for a long time!

Guys,

I've just been told that they don't work very well on UWA? We will be doing most of our shots at 16/17mm?

Something to do with the whole filter not being polarised and the way the light will travel across the frame?

Anyone got any more info?

Thanks,
Jake

Apparently you won't get an even effect with anything wider than 24mm if I remember correctly.

Ok so I could pick up a cheapish one to use on the 24-70L to play about with then.

EDIT: Although what are my options for the 17-40?
