Am organising a family lunch in Exeter on Sunday but slight problem in that all the restaurants we've tried are booked....I know nothing about Exeter so what can GD come up with for a decent place to eat?

A nice pub would be perfect, nothing too formal...TIA :)

There is a Toby Carvery on the ourskirts of the City but can't for life me recall it's name.
I've eaten there several times and it's nice enough. Plenty of parking which is always a winner.

I shall ponder on the name but I'm sure if you Google Toby Carvery Exeter it'll spring up

Cant comment on any in Exeter as my experiences are limited to McDonalds within Exeter itself.
But the Nutwell Lodge in Lympstone (about 2-3 miles outside of Exeter) do the best carvery around that area.

Double Locks, a couple of miles down the canal from the quay, isn't a bad place to have lunch, though there isn't a huge amount of space inside if the weather is bad. I've not been there for a while so I'm not sure what the food is like now, but it was decent and varied.

If you don't mind travelling out of town then you could try the Nobody Inn out in Doddiscombsleigh. Again, it's been a while and it may have changed hands, but last time I was there the pub food (as opposed to the food in the restaurant part, which I've not tried) was good.

Other places to try, which I've not been to personally, but which some people have said they enjoyed are the Swan's Nest just off the road to Exminster, and the Barn Owl which is close to the motorway.

I forgot one: if you want something more upmarket then the Jack in the Green in Rockbeare is supposed to be good. Again, not one I've been to myself though.
