Decent graphical mod for Doom 3?

Just playing this again after the specials over xmas - Just got the resolution to 1920x1200

Now I remember why it scare the jeebies out of me; not the best thing to play before bed!

I fancy getting tucked in Doom 3, never played it when it was new.

I would hate to do that. If i've never played a game before I always want to play it "as it was", and then If i wanted to try some graphical mods I would. Would feel like im ruining it, or incase i'd be missing something out or something.

Yeah same here due to the feeling I might be missing something. Doom 3 still has pretty good graphics due to the severe overuse of bump maps and quite high res texturing on decals which makes a change. I might install it next week and have a cheeky playthrough with some mods and see if it improves gameplay wise.

I recently played quake 4 through (same engine) and quite enjoyed it and even thought it looked abit clunky in the outdoor parts it looked nice on the indoor stuff.

Excellent. I'll try out this GTX graphics mod and hope that helps.

I'm just about to play Doom 3 for the first time but
(a) resolution will not go above 1650x800
(b) cannot select ultra graphics mode
(c) connot turn on AA

I've patched it to 1.3.1 and even edited followed this (editing DoomConfig.cfg) but NOTHING! My system is more than capable of playing this maxed out.

THE ONLY THINGS CHANGED IN CFG FILE:
seta r_customHeight "1050"
seta r_customWidth "1680"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "2"

EDIT: I'm getting an error with that mod "wrong game dll api version", which leads me to think my 64-bit OS may be the issue.

I'm about ready to pull my hair out!

Any other tips?

I'm playing the game itself and the graphics don't seem to bad to be honest. Just the menu screens look very poor and when I look at the settings I have ultra selected but no AA and the resolution is very low too.

Is it just a case of the settings being applied but not shown on the graphics menu? I remember that being an issue when it was first release... would have thought three patches later this would have been fixed by now.

if you want to ruin the game

There is a subtle difference between building tension by the unseen and not being able to see a fracking thing!

Besides, do you think double hard space marine couldn't tape his torch to his shotty? :D

Edit: Oh, and Doom 3 still looks very good, esp the lighting. When it came out I spent far too much time benching and tweaking which ruined the game somewhat, never played it properly. Went back to it last year. Nice to be able to max everything at a stable frame rate

Just picked this and the Resurrection pack, add on, from Amazon for £10. :)
Downloading the demo on Steam now, to check it out for the first time.

If you apply non-standard resolution settings with a config or autoexec file, they won't be shown in the ingame menus.

I'm really surprised how good the graphics are SIX YEARS LATER!! In comparison try looking at the graphics in Escape From Butchers Bay (same release year), it's like playing a game on Win 95.

It's so bloody scary though, I may get the duct tape mod since I'm a big wimp when it comes to scary games. I had to play Deadspace with Prodigy in the background.

Its pretty dumb that after all these Doom 3 patches you still have to hack the cfg file to set your resolution. Or am I the only one who has to do that?

Thank you!! I'm sitting here thinking... jeez I resurrect the thread and two pages later there isn't a single response.

Do you know which line sets the AA level in the config file?

Hmm id forgotten about this. I played through quite a lot of it back in 2005 i think when i built my pc (Amd 64 3200 and a 6800GT Beast!) think i might have to play it again. God knows where the disc is tho (was a free game from ocuk). I take it runs fine on windows 7 and current hardware?
