Decent single malt whiskey - £300-400

I had a Nikka Yoichi 20 year old back when it first won some world whisky award or other and it was absolutely, completely outstanding. As an amateur I could easily pick out the nuances of tastes described by the judges. A total world apart from the standard £30 supermarket 'big namers'. Not sure if the current Nikka Yoichi 20s are as good (they cost about £180), but if you can track down one from the 'winning' casks I'll bet it'll fit the bill.

Why not buy him a whisky tour? He can go round a few distilleries then.

Expensive whisky doesnt always = a much better whisky.
I have a few im collecting and making a good profit off, Port Ellen for instance paid less than £100 its already at £160 on most sites, so its more about how rare certain bottles are.

This is nice, gone up a bit since i had a bottle, about 39 year old.

The 25 year old Glen Livet is very good (it tastes like Christmas pudding) but about £200 so maybe a 25, 21 and an 18 year old so they can taste the difference the extra years make.
