Waiting for star citizen has got me needing to play some space games I picked up EVE online for £3 but its EVE! Can anyone suggest some decent games that will pass my time?

I like Combat and being in control of the ship in some form or another, not really an RTS player but wouldn't mind giving one a go I suppose still play Homeworld 2 from time to time with modded HD textures.

Beautiful graphics a plus but not completely essential

X: TC with the massive amount of community patches/mods/addons etc is a game that could literally be a full-time hobby for a year before running out of stuff to do.

A few:

-Freelancer.
-X-Wing Alliance.
-Star Trek Armada (get the Star Wars mod where you can build Super Star Destroyers, so much fun).
-Star Wars: Empire at War (some ground is involved, but space battles are enjoyable).
-Star Trek Online (again, some ground involved).

In addition to what has been suggested there are the wing commander games on gog http://www.gog.com/game/wing_commander_privateer

Not played them myself but these are supposed to be classics of the genre.

Also there is Tachyon the Fringe which has similar quality graphics to freespace 2 and is regarded as a unknown gem. It is available on a popular online shop.

The Independence War games are on gog and they are classics http://www.gog.com/game/independence_war_deluxe

Starlancer is still one of the best pure dogfighting space games around.

Same school as the old wingcommander, more action jackson, fighting unit.... less story.

i have X:TC from a humble bundle might have to install ! Does anyone know if mods work with the steam version?

Thanks for all the replys if you know of any more keep em coming I cant be the only one with an addiction not being for-filled

Yea they all work fine on steam. X3: TC has slightly better atmosphere but AP is a better sandbox with more stuff out the box.

Otherwise just wait for Elite: Dangerous! :)

If you like Combat then FS2 is an absolute no-brainer, as it has the best combat feel of any space sim I've played, the controls have depth to them but are also intuitive at the same time, just like Hankook you are AT ONE WITH IT. Dogfighting is excellent and it is backed up by a very strong storyline.

If you want the best space game ever made, then grab Freespace II from GoG

very cheap and you can grab a few mods for it.

Not the best looker anymore but if its a brilliant space game you crave, you cant go wrong with this gem :)

If you do pick up FreeSpace 2 then grab fs2_Open as well, as it fixes a lot of bugs and makes a massive difference to the quality of the graphics :

Takes a bit of time to install, but it is worth it.
