Decent Wi-Fi set up? Having issues :(

totally agree with this, I work in network services for an SP and our tier 1 guys get loads of wireless calls and the majority are resolved by changing the channel on the hub. Just see which channels are in use locally and pick a free one (pref with a bit of gap) theres plenty of free programs available for this or free phone apps that will give you the channel info you need

or just use good old cmd prompt - netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid

There are only 3 non-overlapping channels in 2.4GHz, if you pick anything other than 1, 6 or 11 then you've done it wrong. Most kit that sets channels automatically will pick one of those three.

Yeah i'm on one, there is one at 6 and another at 11 so interference from others shouldn't be a problem. Its just hit and miss, 95% of the time it works flawlessly just frustrating when it doesn't :D

Yeah I think I might have to, it's just going to be a massive ballache to do :/

The Powerline adapters are well reviewed giving decent speeds so idk ..

Ultimately it's down to the electrical wiring and what electrical items are plugged in/operating, so every property is going to give different results.

I have a mixed setup where I run the network cables along the skirting boards or under the floorboards etc, I also use a trio of Homeplugs ( switch, sons room, daughters room ) , and I have the wireless for Lappies and Mobiles. in this setup, is a modem/router and 2 switches.

I can with all honesty say that NOTHING can compare to simply buying a long ethernet cable and simply taking that from A to B

Homeplugs make things easy I grant you and to be fair, they work brilliantly, we can nit pick for sure but they do work.

But if its a choice... Take the better options and use a bit of elbow and get cables laid.

Its superior in EVERY WAY!
