Deciding on the CPU.

Now I have a Q8200 but I want to upgrade so I don't know what to choose between E8400 or Q9400.The Q9400 has 2.66Ghz and 6 mb cache but the E8400 has 3.0Ghz and 6 mb cache.So does a dual-core CPU @ 3Ghz perform better than a quad-core @ 2.66Ghz keeping in mind that they're both 45nm and the same cache?

In most current games, a faster dual core will perform better than a slower (in terms of clockspeed) quad core. Only in a few games (such as ARMA2 and GTA4) will you see a big performance benefit with a quad. Therefore, if it is prurely for games, the E8400 is a better choice.

However, as you have a Q8200 already, have you considered overclocking it? However, you will need a decent motherboard and an aftermarket CPU cooler to do serious overclocking (but this will be much cheaper than a new CPU).

most of the newer games coming out will run better on a quad. since you have a quad getting a dual core as an upgrade is just silly

So I decide to keep my Q8200 a lil more and overclock it.3Ghz should be enough for me.Thanks for you responses.Cheers.
