I need to decide what phone to get....... I need to decide today!

Cant help but notice the number of times I've spotted people with IPhones. I find the whole fad amazing. What is it about them which makes them so great (please not I'm not calling them great or bad). I'm having trouble finding out what their x-factor is. I can neither see or feel it  .

However, I'm still intrigued by the thing.. So much so that this is enough of a reason to consider getting one.

I've also been checking out HTC's Desire S. Great looking phone. Based on what I've seen the Desire offers up roughly the same features as the IPhone. This begs the question..... Why one would select the IPhone over anything else on the market?!

So it's down to the HTC and Iphone.....

One of the big things with the iphone is the simplicity.

You can hand an iPhone to anyone and they will know how to use it - its just so instinctive and easy to get on with and with it being a closed system the experience can be controlled and repeated with ease across the full range of devices.

The same can pretty much be said about most phones these days.

I've never seen myself as a follower/sheep. However, I cant help spotting all of these zombies on their IPhones..... Whats the crack?

I have reasons for and against the thing..... neither outweighs the other..... This is why I'm so confused.

For me the HTC seems like the most reasonable choice.... Simply because it appears to do everything the iphone can do. So why havent I got it yet....

The iPhone has a far better range of apps (especially games) and loads music/video/apps via an application that most people are already familiar with.

If you don't own an iPod then the iPhone's advantages probably won't make any sense.

You seem to have a massive chip on your shoulder. Grow up. Go android, then you can lord it over all of us about how you're an individual.

I've been looking at the HTC phones a lot over the last couple days and it actually seems like the HD and Incredible S come out on top of the Desire S. So I'd go for one of those two over it.

Id recommend iPhone 4, SGS2 or SE Xperia Arc as these are the top handsets at the moment.

Add the Omnia 7 to that list and you're about there.

The Desire S is a mid range phone isn't it, not HTCs flagship but I guess on a par with an iPhone 4 in the sense it's more the same generation whereas the SGS2 and others are the next generation.

Erm, what?

Anyway, back on topic. The reason that the iPhone sells is the power of the brand. Simple as that. Obviously, this isn't working quite as well anymore, with companies like HTC really pushing the boat out when it comes to their devices, and the fact the iPhone IS insanely overpriced. I don't think that anyone will disagree when I say it is a rip-off...which brings us to the next point. Any Android phone can do anything an iPhone can do. It's just how the platforms do them that sets them apart.

The iPhone does everything in apps. Everything you do is based around...an app. Android is more flexible; you can use your widgets for quick access, and it's far more customisable. Not saying one is right or wrong, it just depends on which method you prefer.

However, if you are a big multitasker, the iPhone is something I'd stay away from to be honest, at least for now. The way in which it multitasks is, in my opinion at least, astoundingly awful. Android's memory management is fantastic; kills anything off in the background, everything runs silky smooth at all times from my experience.

At the end of the day though, it's your choice. My best advice is to go into a store and take a look at all of them, thoroughly. Also consider the prices of the new phones that are coming out. If you can stomach the price and want a new phone, then wait (though believe me, you won't need one, so if you want to save money and buy a current gen phone of the 'bay, new, it's a good idea, and will save you a lot).

As has been said already, ease of use, quality hardware and customer support, superb app selection.

If you MUST have a HTC phone and must have it today, the Incredible S is your best option, followed by the Desire S.

The only phone I would take clearly over an iPhone 4 is the Samsung Galaxy S II at the moment. It is the current 'king' of phones.

After those its the Omnia 7, SE Xperia arc and Incredible S all in second place.

Reading your posts though, you should get an iPhone.
