Decisions? (Bike related)

I think at end of day your average sports bike is not comfortable, man I'd hate to do 200 miles in one sitting let alone 1000.. I can stand about 2hr's in summer before my nuts are roasted (dam those underseat exhausts) and have pressure sores. :D

Even on something like a Daytona 600?

Going back to see it today. My brother wants to get a Honda VT150 Shadow. He think's I know a lot about bikes so he wants me to look at it :O

Cheapest TPO insurance I've found is £1100. Not too bad, would be nice if it was under 1k though.

300 miles a day is about my comfort limit on a sportsbike, but thats on the twisties and with plenty of stops (at least 3 for fuel). If I absolutely had to I reckon I could do 500 motorway miles. I wouldnt do it on a 125, but it is possible - people have toured the world on the them (http://www.re-moto.com)

If you do it though I reckon you'd be in with a shout of winning http://www.ironbuttukrally.info :D

yeah, I rode non stop from south coast to blackpool on TL1000R and I was a shattered man once arrived. Everything hurt and for next two days it felt like I'd run a marathon or done 10 rounds with tyson.

guess thats a worse case scenario though as they are the most uncomfortable bike known to man due to crazy riding position..

If you want low insurance yet a decent amount of power and comfortable ride, you really have to look at tourers. Something like a Deauville, Guzzi Nevada or BMW K75 (who'd have thought I'd be suggesting this? ;)) may be worth looking at - you can probably pick up a decent K75 for £1k or so and with a little routine maintenance will run for years.

If I were you, I'd be looking at something similar to a 2002 Fazer or Thundercat.

I think they are relatively cheap to insure.

Yea, the Fazer 600 are cheaper anyway for me. When i was 18 it was £800 Fully Comp for a 2003 Fazer 600. Was an amazing bike aswell, shame what happened to it.

Ok, brought the RS125 in today.

My friend there immediately said it was a race bike :o He says it will not take much to get running as it is only the ignition changed and a few wires. Also a possiblity of the altenator gone as it reduces power in race bikes or something.

Says it has about 36bhp easy :o (legal limit is 14 for learner, 33 for restricted)

Going to call him again tomorrow then take it from there..

For that kind of distance you'll want a decent fairing. Not sure what the fairing is like on an RS125. I rode to Italy on my blade last year, around 500 miles a day, and my neck got a very sore. Check out the honda cb500s, this should be a lot cheaper to insure than the 600cc class, is v reliable and is an ideal bike to restrict at 33bhp. I had one when I passed my test and it never let me down. Has a half fairing too.

A race bike. Doesn't it have a headlight, inidicators and mirrors?

It's standard practice to re-fit all the road trim when a race bike has reached the end of it's useable life (knackered) and pass it off as a low mileage bike. Pretty easy to do as the bodywork will usually be in excellent condition having never been fitted to the bike.

Telltale signs are pristene bodywork with a tatty looking frame, drilled sump plug, bodged wiring.

My 2002 Fazer was £634 TPFT through Adelaide here in Northern Ireland.
My friend picked up his 1998 Thundercat about 2 weeks ago for £555 with Adelaide as well.

Both of us are 21 and he had a years no claims from his 125cc days.

I don't understand why you are getting ridiculously high quotes kvfb97.

If you want to buy my Fazer off me (2002 FZS600, Fox-eye model with 9000 miles! ;)) just shout!

The RS125 does have everything fitted, however fairings and the bodywork isnt in the best of condition, thats why I sanded/painted it. The wiring is ballouxed as said above, but all the original cables are there, so should be fine. Lots of modifications too, 36mm carb.

I'm going to wait, get some experience with my super fast RS125 :D and then possibly next year buy a big bike.

After all, I wanted the RS125 as a project bike. I've already told the mechanic that I want to do things if possible. I've been doing good so far. Cannot wait to get going.

Rossmac: No idea why they are so high either. Probably because I've no experience and no NCB lol. Hopefully after a year of driving, and lots of money spent on my reliable RS125, they will come down a lot.

Can't wait either, love the Triumph Daytona 600. Pure sexual, yellow = awesome.

Maybe get out for a bike ride soon ross? :D

Older CBR600F. I really don't like them, the engine and me just don't get on but there's no denying they're brilliant, and can be had cheap. Quite comfy, quite good 2-up, good fun. Or, perhaps the last of the ZX6Rs before it went 636? Those are cheap too. Both properly fast bikes but very unfashionable now so cheaper and not big theft targets. They'd make a lot more sense than a Daytona I reckon (though the Daytona had a brilliant chassis, total poise, if the suspension was up to the same standard it'd have been legendary)
