Decisions...decisions...

If I had the cash, I'd get the U2711. I prefer a single monitor to a dual monitor setup. Although this is personal preference.

I think it is fair to say that no matter which of those you buy you will be happy.

I've just got myself a U2711 to replace my ageing 2407WFP (it has 2 dead bugs trapped between the screen layers that were driving me mad) and I've got to say the improvement in resolution and colour is amazing.

I really wish I'd got one sooner so IMO push that buy button now ;)

Thanks all - mainly for photo work, general browsing and some sim type gaming (e.g FSX, FPS shooters such as CoD4 etc). I'm not a competitive twitcher. I also fancy being able to use it to watch HD movies on and hook up my PS3 when the fancy takes me.

Its a new build PC - i7 920 (Oc'd to 3.6 GHz) with a 5870 graphics card.

Cheers,

U2711 for sure, it's one of the best monitors currently and the resolution will be perfect for your machine gamewise.

So, with another couple of weeks gone by - anyone else have any views or do you still think a single U2711 is the way forward...??

I've come to the conclusion that using two monitors only, the central bezel will become annoying in games!

I would describe myself as a 'monitor enthusiast'. I spend most of my waking hours discussing them, thinking about them and usually using them. To me a multi-screen setup has never appealed for entertainment purposes. Even back in the days when Matrox delivered some of the first true 'multi monitor' graphics card I never really saw the true appeal for the gamer and having used many multi-monitor solutions since they still don't impress me. The central bezel (or bezels if using more than two screens), multiple power supplies and overall cost was outweighed by the fact you could get a single 'bigger and better' screen for a similar price. Incase you hadn't guessed my vote is going for the U2710 ;). It is the single most impressive monitor for gaming I've used to date, with the exception of some rare Samsung OLED prototypes that I shouldn't talk about. :D

It really depends on the software you use.

For me two 24" monitors is better than one 27" or 30", even if I was to use software to assist with using one large screen in sections. I do a lot of work that involves multiple applications needing to be visible at the same time so having the maximum pixel count and also not to high a DPI is best. I've tried a single 30" which didn't provide enough space, 2 x 30" is too large (and expensive!) and mixing sizes by rotating one screen is tricky to get a good size match, so for me 2 x 24" works best. However if maximum continuous viewing space was important to my tasks then I would go with a single larger screen.

Have you had a chance to play around with an HP zr30w?

That thing looks pretty tasty. I have to say I'm tempted: 2560*1600, full 10-bit colour, very low input lag, 111% Adobe colour gamut (as measured by anandtech). The only downside is the price... I know that a 30" 2560 IPS screen is never cheap, but the asking price over here is more than the US RRP in dollars! (£1250 vs $1200).

I haven't yet, no. I would certainly like to give it a go. Also looking forward to testing the upcoming U3011.

Yeah... It should be a very good panel.

My only concern about the 3011 is the potential for input lag, though we will have to wait and see from reviews I suppose. I just wish more manufacturers took it seriously (as an advertised feature, not just a secondary consequence).

Hazro have a new 30" screen on the way too, apparently, but I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole after my previous experience. Their approach to warranties is to simply ignore the customer.

Yeah this was a little bit of a problem with the U2711. It wasn't a major problem but the U2410 is just so much better in that regard when using 'game mode'. I think 'game mode' on the U2711 did pretty much nothing. I just hope the U3011 is more like the U2410 in that respect.

Thanks for the heads up uvarvu!

I guess this explains why the HP zr30w has dropped in price by around 200 this last week or so.

(Scurries off to look for reviews)

Hmmm, Just seen the review of the U2410 on PCM2's website and this sounds like an awesome bit of kit. I guess the dilema now, is whether it's worth paying almost twice the price for a U2711 with the issues highlighted above, when the U2410 seems to be better in some areas...

My head hurts, why cant it be simple....???!!!

Yeah it is a tough call. I do wish we had reviewed a U2711 for you from the same perspective (i.e. enterainment) so we could offer a nice comparison. Glad you liked the U2410 review - but maybe it would have made your job easier if you didn't. :p
