I own the Benq, you have to set it up right as out of the box the picture is terriable. But, when it's setup it's very good - almost no input lag and 120hz is good, you will need a graphics cards that can handle 120 fps.

I've not suffered with light leakage or dead pixels

Yea, I think my 470 may be up for it in most games (may need to tweak a few settings though and overclock it.) So, nothing bad to report from the BenQ?
 
I was wondering if someone could clear this up for me. What's the difference between the 'TRUE' 3D monitors (such as the benq etc) and the other 120hz ones?
 
The 'true' 120Hz monitors are capable of receiving 120 'updates' from the GPU every second and outputting an image with up to 120 discrete and individual frames. This makes for a very smooth image if the pixel responses can keep up and also allows the frames to be split into 60 per eye (often shown sequentially) for use with 3D active shutter glasses. The manufacturer won't always choose to claim 'true' 120Hz even if it is - but it should be obvious from the reviews, price and specifications. The remaining monitors that claim 120Hz capability work in a similar way to the TV by using frame interpolation and other similar technologies. Rather than outputting 120 discrete frames of source material they are only able to outut 60 frames but also create their own intermediate frames to double the number of frames being shown. This is a somewhat predictive technology that can work quite well for movies and the like but you don't get the same kind of smoothness benefits in games that you can enjoy from actual 120Hz output. These monitors often support passive 3D only (such as LG's FPR technology) because this doesn't tax the GPU or output alternate frames in each eye sequentially and hence won't require 120Hz output for a smooth performance.

Thanks for that, just trying to process the information, so bare with me :D. So depending on what I want to use the monitor for (in my case, gaming) I should get any 120hz monitor.

Any 120Hz monitor with an actual 120Hz refresh rate, yes. That is almost all models available save a few from LG and HP. BenQ, ASUS, Acer, ViewSonic and Samsung all offer models with an actual 120Hz refresh rate and don't have any new models claiming 120Hz that actually aren't. :)

That's great, was hoping you'd jump in this thread (seen your comments on other ones.. not that im a stalker! ;)). Which do you reckon is a good 24" (23.6) model to get at the moment, or am I better off waiting for this new Benq one. I don't think my budget would stretch to a 27" (same res as 24 anyway).
 
Well the XL2420T could be worth waiting for but if you can stand glossy screens the VG236HE is a good bet :).

Update: BenQ has confirmed that retail stock of the XL2420T can be expected in mid December in the UK and EU but a release date for the US could not be confirmed. They have also confirmed the XL2420TX model which will include an integrated Nvidia 3D Vision 2 IR transceiver and a pair of the new Nvidia active shutter glasses. The original expected retail price of around £270 ($399) for the XL2420T still stands but no confirmation of the ‘TX’ model’s retail price and availability has yet been given.
 
The latest info on my website (shameless :p) suggests that December is the likely launch month in the UK for the XL2420T. We are in contact with BenQ and hope to have a review sample in the middle of December which is probably around the time it will launch. Not sure when the review will actually be published though as I don't really want to spend too much time reviewing monitors over the Christmas period. :p

sorry ha! i really want to know the release date of the BenqXL2420TX model guess that will be around the same time or after mid december ?:confused:
 
Just saw the XL2420T on pre-order on another site for £276. Which is cheaper than the current BenQ's, but doesnt state a date for pre-order. Might just bite the bullet and order it ready incase of price changes (for the worst :p)

are you sure thats right ? the Benq XL2420T is around that price ..but the XL2420TX will be £100 more as they put the 3D glasses in with them :confused:

Sorry, didnt even realise I put the X in there! I will change it. So, is the X version the same as the T, but with glasses included and the 3D IR (just read the news bit on their site)?

yeah the X version has the built in emitter plus the glasses which means you don,t need the nvidia kit .so maybe wait until its out ;)
 
Just had a tempting offer to buy a 2nd hand Benq XL2410T for half of the price new from here..Depending on the condition (practically new), its looking very tempting :eek:

I am fairly sure, based on what BenQ has said, that this will be launched after Christmas. Most likely January.
