My internal 1 TB drive has failed after many years of sterling service. What do I replace it with? I have a 250 GB Samsung SSD as boot drive but I do need more space for games and photos. I also have a Synology with 2TB.

Do I go for another 250 GB SSD or another spinning rust drive?

It sounds to me like, unless you're made of money, another spinner would be fine. If speed was important I you'd have said so. Save yourself £40 :)

to be honest i would go for a normal HDD.

i have the same SSD and what I do is multiplayer games and games with huge maps i install to my SSD (only 2 or 3 games) and all my single player games went to my HDD.

i was in the same situation where my HDD died so i got another evo as 500gb HDD wasn't even half full, only used about 100GB.

save the money and get a normal HDD unless speed is a requirement

Thanks guys. I'll wait until Wednesday to see if Gibbo & co. comes up with any offers. Spinning rust is likely. 1 TB seem to be better value than 500 GB.

my 500GB drive was the 1 my first SSD replaced so thought i may as well use it for my games library till it killed over.

HDDs are so cheap these days

Unfortunately it seems the decent SSD's are still roughly 10x the price as mechanical :( Do you have any need for the 1TB drive? IE, are you currently using 250GB+?

I have a NAS, so I don't really need much storage but the current 250 GB is a bit too full after installing my games. It is only £ 5.00 between 500GB and 1TB, and another £ 40.00 up for a 250 GB SSD.

SSD is tempting, I could always move it to SWIMBO's PC when she needs an upgrade later this / early next year.

Lol @ SWIMBO :p

How about getting the 500GB Samsung SSD and using the migration tool to move to that from your 250, then putting that in her PC?

Something I should have asked right away, what's your budget here?

Budget is flexible. I like your idea of swapping over...
Maybe she can get my old Windows 7 license (She is on Vista) and I pick up Windows 10..
