Infested with rats, that old myth gets trotted around everytime someone asks about getting decking…………
It’s not a myth when you’ve observed it multiple times.

I use this instead of pressure washing. Much quicker, over a year and the slabs are still clean:
Sodium Hypochlorite 15% HIGH Strength Patio Block Paving Driveway Cleaner Washer | Algae Weed Moss Mould Blackspot & Lichen Killer Remover | Chlorine Shock Treatment of Pools & Spas https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B087X9D1HF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5QJEDAZRW1RXKQG6KZFK
.
Same here……well over 10yrs and not a single rat and i live in rural walesI've had decking over slabs for years and never had a rat yet...
This is my job for tomorrow, any hints and tips? I have the sodium hypochlorite and jet washer at the ready! I was going to mix the SH one part to 3 parts water, maybe a bit stronger for the dark spots or stubborn stains.

OK - I'm going to try this first. The drive needs a clean so will do that as well. So as Mysterae asks... any hints or tips?
I used a 5L sprayer. Dilution was roughly 1:4. Sprayed it on, left it (should have worn a mask, did wear safety specs and old clothes that could bleach easily). Watched it work before my eyes for about 15-30 minutes. Topped up a few places where it had soaked in and hadn’t had as much effect. Washed it off with the hose. Although it washed into the adjacent hedge it didn’t affect the plants, it may do with some more delicate plants. Path dried and looked cleaner than whenever I had pressure washed it previously. It continued to bleach a little more over the next few days and a year later none of the lichen or moss has grown back - it’s a shady side of the house and just a few months after pressure washing it would all grow back.
My biggest problem with our path and jet washing is that it can too easily wash out the stuff in the joins between the slabs.
Biggest tip would be to do it on a day when your windows are closed because it stinks, but the smell soon fades.
Cheers @CaptainRAVE , had a go at it today, knackered! You're right, that stuff stinks, a bleachy swimming pool kind of stink. Unfortunately my jet washer hose sprung a leak so that stopped play, conveniently.
How quickly does the smell fade - I don't want to stink out the street if I do the driveway...
As CaptainRAVE says it doesn't linger too long but best avoid times when there's people around. Of the solution I made 1:4 (5 litres mixed) that didn't go very far, only covered the front of the house but I suppose I was spraying it on liberally. I had finished spraying at around 3pm, left on for probably 45 minutes and after a rinse by 6pm the other half didn't notice any smell. It was quite warm and bright yesterday so that may have had an impact.
The slabs now actually sparkle in the sunshinehowever the pointing is shocking and needs to be done soon. Got a lot more to do before I get to that stage though and this was the easiest section to do.

Had them last summer under our decking. Caught 4 of them, and a neighbour poisoned the rest as they came and went.Same here……well over 10yrs and not a single rat and i live in rural wales
Not if you get one with any kind of texture, I've seen super smooth stuff for sale, but most have a grain or texture to them that makes them ok - infinatley better than slimed up wooden deckingIs composite deadly slippy?
