Decluttering your house.

Starting to think it's time to get rid of all my books, it's not like I ever read them again. I've managed to limit it to one bookcase, which is looking in need of replacement, but I don't have a lot of space and could use that space for something else. Tried going kindle once and didn't get on with it, might just stop buying books entirely.

My wife and I had the same issue, but then I tried Kindle on our larger tablets and on also my PC for my work related reference books. Having larger screens, sharper text and faster speed made it a lot better (white on black text is surprisingly comfortable).

The wife buys paperbacks from charity shop then takes them back when we have read them - If you are talking hard backs we sorted out ones we would like to keep and slowly got rid of the rest - if you don't read them why keep them.

I have got in the habit of clearing out drawers now and again and it's nice having a bit of space. Also you find thing's you forgot you had and now you have two because you bought another one.

I find this is a pretty great habit. I tend to go through all my drawers/boxes (I have a joy unit type thing) every few months. Just helps me remember what I have.

Went to grab the extension pole for the ceiling roller earlier and was so pleased to see I haven't lost the adaptor for "push fit" rollers :D

Do you have a lending library within walking or cycling distance? I used to buy books but nowadays borrow two or three per week.

I have had a huge clear out and it feels good. Have multiple items for sale con eBay and given away loads of stuff to family and friends. I could now move everything I own into a very small van. The only thing hanging over me is an 85” TV that needs thinking about.

Funny reading this again and remembering that by the age of 21 I had lived in around 25 different places and houses, so a big clear out was a regular occurrence.
When I settled down, it was harder to part with stuff, but then over time I've now come to a 'If I haven't needed it/them in a couple of years, out they go' attitude.

Shame really as she was such a good girlfriend to start with :D

Move house, or even better, move countries.

When you’re paying by the cubic metre to shift your worldly goods a thousand or so kilometres south of Dover, you really thin out your stuff and keep just the “must haves”.

When I emigrated I had a LWB Crafter to fill. If it didn't fit in the van it went on eBay, and if it didn't sell fast, it went to the tip.

I lost count of how many tip runs I made over the last few weeks I was in the UK.

Library is the answer.

We used to buy and keep so many books, now we are limited to 1 bookshelf, the rest come on loan from our very good local library

The wife has had a recent clear out and today asked if we have any plastic bags - I told her yes and next time I saw her she was half way up garden taking them to summer house. - That is not a clear out ? - It's a shift around till you loose them.

or you buy the next shed:)

Love the charity bags that come through the door, that's another bag of clothes gone to a hopefully good cause.
Still got far far too much stuff though.

Somebody is going to get my very out of fashion suit that I bought in the 1980's that is now 2 sizes too big for me. :D

At a guess they might sell certain items that have good value to assist with running costs. There's a lot of used clothes on ebay from businesses and i doubt they buy and resell using charity shops and car boots.
