It's all very well when people say "if you don't use it bin it" and for the most part i agree. But everything i have i got for a reason, it has a use maybe not everyday but its part of my life and as long as there's a bit of space left i'm going to cram it in right to the end
I've got much better these days, I used to be terrible at throwing things away.
We moved house and now I have two very small rooms to live in so I've had to get much better at it. I actually really like selling stuff on eBay. Exciting.
I have a box in my wardrobe full of cables and connections I've got with components - it's usually pretty useful - if I need anything cable wise - it's always the first place I go to as normally I'll have it there
If you've got a fair bit of stuff then I'd recommend the car boot sale, not for the financial gain, but simply to avoid landfill. If you can't sell the stuff you could always ask other sellers if they want your stuff, as you do get "specialists" there, e.g. a guy with a computer stall.
Most of the "junk" we have in our house is because it is connected to a memory or was once owned by another family member who gave it to her instead of throwing it away.
If she will not let you throw it away, you may be able to strike a compromise where it is put in the loft
