I'm currently using a Corsair carbide 540 case and have a particular colour scheme going - what's bugging me though is the two aluminium hard drives sat at the bottom of the case, ruining my carefully crafted look (yeah I've run out of things to upgrade so I'm looking for excuses to tinker).

As long as you don't cover the holes on the surface on the drive, can you paint the top of them? Or cover them with, say, carbon fibre wrap? (again, leaving the holes uncovered).

Based on me knowing absolutely nothing, I would say you could wrap or paint them as long as you don't cover anything that wasn't covered before. There could be a slight impact to temperature, and I'm not sure it will do your warranty any favours.

There's no way I'd paint a hard drive.

A layer of anything will send temperatures soaring. The casing acts as a heatsink.

Instantly warranty ruined and HDD are in the top 5 most likely component to fail.

Thanks guys, the drives are well out of warranty but the temperature issue was my main concern. I might just try and do away with them tbh and stick the larger one in an external case. they're only really storage for mp3, photos etc with ssd's doing the bulk of what I need.
