Mafia 2 will make a 9800GT cry, need a 200 series card for that really.

It's not a particularly good game is it. Not worth spending £200 on a GPU for a couple of effects. Other than that, there's what? Batman and Mirrors Edge and that's about it. Both of those run fine on a 240GT.

It's a nice bonus if you have an Nvidia card as a primary or laying around, not worth buying a new one for sure.

I'll through my experience into the ring.

I have 2 GTX 470's in SLI.

Dedicating one card to PhysX in both Batman AA and Mafia 2 makes both games run slower than just having SLI enabled and both cards sharing the work.

 

[Predicament]

You'd have to be extremely rich to buy a new 580/560 simply for a few bits of eye-candy in a small handful of games.

you don't need a card for physx if you have a 5970...surely you can max out most games with that card?
