Default Apps - OS X

I switched to mac last summer and it has been fantastic.. but this has been annoying me for a while:

How do i change the default app for each file type?

Also one other thing whilst i think of it. My 'end' --> arrow button seems to be a bit dodgy.. if i am typing i can use the arrows to move back through the text, but cant move forward again using the right arrow button. But i know it's not completely broken because i can use cmd+right arrow to goto the end of the line.. This is similar in all applications. This must be a software problem, anyone have any ideas?

right click on that file type, go to get info. Under the list "open with", change the application to the one you want, e.g. .AVI files open with VLC.

Once selected, click on "change all" to make this the default application to open all of such file types

Thanks for that. I hadnt really thought about doing that with my mac as I dont really use it for much except as a downloader.
