So went on YouTube with the laptop on a new install of chrome (never really use laptop for youtube) so there's no internet history and I'm not logged in.

The default recommended videos all seems to be red/black pill, right-wing/anti feminist/Pro trump conspiracy and other similar videos.

I'm curious if anyone else is willing to log out clear history/use a new browser and see if you get the same.

It seems really weird these are the first videos a new user would see

Nope, I've not got a google account or whatever you need to log into YouTube and i all ways disable search/watch history. I get things like "Giant beetle sounds like a jack-hammer", "Explosion outside Kabul airport in Afghanistan - BBC News", and ""Sorry If I Crossed The Line There" | Jimmy Carr's Best Insults | 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown".

Probably some Chrome/Google/YouTube thing where it's picking up on your IP address or some other unique identifier and suggesting more of what you've already watched on another device.

Good to know its just my laptop was a bit weird :D

I know videos I've watched on this PC show up on another persons Chromebook using the same network but different Youtube/Google account.

Firstly Youtube bases some of it "uninformed" recommendations on huge quantities of data, so anyone in the same house as you, same office or same block of flats can affect it. Google also tries to collect data on you though analytics, so visiting most websites will cause content themed to said content to show up.
I believe it will also try and link your activity to a Google account even when not logged in. It will also use your IP range to infer some details if all else fails.

I tend to get car crash videos and global news. Plus the "you wont believe what happened!" kind of nonsense. I think this happens as I tend to just go on news websites when not at my daily driver.

Yeah using a random sim I don't usually browse the internet on with a completely fresh install the recommendations I get are:

Current affairs
Trending videos and the most recently active top YouTubers
Those silly compilations of "you wont believe what happened!" kind of nonsense as mentioned above
A few social justice, etc. type videos
Top 10 disasters
Upcoming movie trailers

Nothing particularly out of the ordinary.

The fastest road making machine in the world

American girl gets the shock of her life

How things are actually made

Is this the poshest event in Britain

Prison escapee convinces cop he's actually a jogger

I signed out but didn't clear history though.

I did once click through to a Jordan Peterson video, linked from this very forum, on a 'clean' work PC, and the sidebar just recommended all the alt-right, redpill fringe nonsense you might expect

I get what seems to be a random mix of whatever Google is promoting, whatever's popular and clickbait "you must see this/you won't believe this" type of nonsense.

I don't have a google account, I don't have a search history or browser history or cookies that persist after I close the browser, I have varying fake geolocation and varying fake IP address. Google might be able to track me in some other way, but if they are it doesn't seem to be working at all well.

If I watch a few videos in a session the recommended videos are mostly at least somewhat relevant, so google's system is working. I just choose to limit how much it has on me.
