Defender came first iirc and was much tougher at the later levels and totally frantic , i'd even consider 'Scramble' ahead of R-type ;p

Thats probably intentional...

It wasnt exactly easy on an arcade machine....to kids used to playing on their Atari 2600's with 1 fire button, to be suddenly confronted with this....
