Deflection Pulley Snapped E90

Hi All,

I need to replace my Deflection Pulley on my E90 320d (Parts 5,6,7; http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=VC32-EUR-05-2005-E90-BMW-320d&diagId=11_3662 )

I'm wanting to do this myself but I'm in need of some tools and some advice.

Reading around, the tensioner pulley (http://i.imgur.com/R7Phv9v.jpg) has the thin tube/pole(thing) which keeps the spring coiled inside and should only be removed when that unit has been placed inside the engine bay. Am I going to have a problem when removing that when I need to put the belt back on? I don't want it to spring open.

Cheers

Move the tensioner against it's spring and insert a drill bit/allen key/anything that'll fit. Remove belt, replace pulley, refit belt (or fit new), hold tensioner against spring, remove pin.

Easy!

The picture of the tensioner you posted above, looks like it has a 50 torx fitting at the bottom. Put a bit and ratchet on that, and move the tensioner against it's spring, to release the tension on the belt.

This is the actual engine bay.

The green bit is the bit where the deflection pulley has snapped. The purple bit is the TX60 socket which I'm guessing I need to undo and the red bit is (i'm guessing) where the pin goes.

Should I need to do anything with the pin or just loosen the TX60 socket slightly.

I think what they mean is to insert a torx bit in that socket left and below the purple one and rotate it anti clockwise until the hole marked in red aligns with another hole. Stick a drill bit or something through those holes to hold the tensioner in place. Refit the new pulley and the belt and stick the torx bit back in that socket, remove the drill bit/pin and let the belt tension again.
