Hi all, just wondering what defrag program is best. I used to use the one built into System Mechanic but ive stopped using that as the latest version is far too bloated. Also im having odd problems with Diskeeper 2008, its bloody slow, slow as in it speeds to 48% then takes 12 hours to do the next 10% - im thinking a code problem with quad cores. So Diskeeper is being kept boot time only and using UltraDefrag for the rest, however ultra defrag just doesnt seem to do the job. Games are taking a good while to load up now, slowly getting worse since i stopped using System Mechanic. What do we recommend then? Please dont recommend anything Symentec :P

o&o defrag is considered one of the best, it's not free but i'd never turn back now

version 10 works in 2000, xp, 2003, vista, 2008 there are 32bit and 64bit ones out too

cool i was aobut to ask this same question. i used to use Diskeeper 9, found it really good but of course it isn't compatable with Vista. i'm gonna try that JK Defrag - looks good. thanks!

I use the Contig.exe with the Power Defragmentor GUI. It does what it says, just defrags and pretty quickly too.
Same same. :)

However it doesn't analyse the disks for you and I've nlite'd the XP defrag tool out so I've got no way of seeing if the disks actually need a defrag. :o

Do any of these tools, free or otherwise, analyse the disk(s) for you and tell you if you need to defrag them?
