Hey all

Just set up 2x500gb seagate 16mb cache in raid 0 and 2x200gb 2mb cache in raid 0 and was wondering whats the best way to defrag these things or even if im meant to?

its just all been set up for about 2 days now and ive sorted thru the folders upon folders full of junk so now i think its time to defrag lol

Any tips for a raid newb would be appreciated :)

The same way you defrag any hard drive. To most software, a RAID array looks and behaves like a single hard drive albeit more quickly or with more reliability or so. (Or to put it more abstractly, to most software the all hard drive storage is seen as just a block device. That is, software fundamentally makes requests to read and write blocks of data to the controller and don't care how that service is provided. The fact that there are more than one physical drive behind that "interface" is basically irrelevant. Of course, specialised software specifically designed to "peek under the covers" (e.g. RAID controller/monitoring software) is an exception to that.)

Cheers Lads, i use o&o defrag to order things by filename/folder so i just didnt want to mess anything up. thanks for the breakdown tho i think i get raid a bit better now.
