Anyone know why I have to defrag my system every day ?

I dont put anything new on the drive after I defrag it then later in the day I analyze the drive with diskeeper and the red/blue is pretty much 50/50 ? WTF.

This is also after a restart as well I usually restart the computer when I wake up and before I goto bed so it runs nice through the night and through the day.

It says "Warning" after the analysis which results in minimum 2 defrags a day

Bit scare info to base any judgements on.

I tend to ignore the % fragmentation, and look at the number of files fragmented and the average number of fragments per file.

sorry.

Windows XP Professional SP2
NTFS Partition 30GB

Fragmented Files - 162
Fragmentation % - (Volume 0%, Data 0%)
Fragments Per File (Average) - 1.09
Files with performance loss - 156

I would copy and paste the saved txt file but its too long, heres the most fragmented files hopefully not that long

Your output says 0% fragmentation? Not too sure what is going on with that.

Having looked at your output I have a few suggestions. Your average fragments per file is 1.09. Seems a lot, until you see that you have two large files that are heavily fragmented. MSI173.tmp has 3,340 fragments at 46Mb. MSI1C1.tmp has 256 fragments at 10Mb.

The good news is you can delete both of these files as they are only TEMP files. This will reduce your average fragments per file considerably (as well as speeding up your defrag!). (Your next heavily fragmented file is only 72k and has 142 fragments)

I strongly recommend consolidating your free space on your drive. (This will do a lot to help the recurring problem with fragmentation your having)

Further recommendations would be to invest in a larger HDD. Keeping your swap file and data away from your OS helps to keep fragmentation to a minimum. (You could even create a 10Gig-15Gig Partition on your current drive for your data based on your current free space)

Also check what % your reserving for system restore. You have a lot of system restore points that are causing you fragmentation.

I would also remove your email address before a bot picks it up and adds you to a spam list.

Sneaky bugger how did that E-Mail get there lol.

Thanks for the tip

The HDD is actually a 120GB I just have C: as 30GB just for programs and the other data for the second partition.
