Hiya i have the Crucial RealSSD 128GB and its GREAT!

So i just started a defragment on it.

Should i do this?

No idea wether i should just defrag them as normal or if its needed etc...

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Schoie.

No you shouldnt. The disk does not need to spin to access things as far as I understand defragging will be of no benefit and simply put more wear on the memory chips.

So Trim is just somewthing that is done automatically by the SSD and Win 7 yes? there is no user input to make this work correctly?

Trim is automatic so any SSD these days with TRIM support installed on supported OS like Windows 7, Linux 2.6.33 or Windows Server 2008 R2 wont require any management from users part, it all functions behind the scenes. Garbage Collection will kick in when the system is idle.

Defrag will knacker the drive! It was only needed for spindle drives to keep all the data together, to save it spinning to the other side and delaying read/write times etc.

SSD works totally different. As mentioned above, if your SSD support TRIM and/or GC (garbage collection), it will keep itself tidy when idle in Windows 7.

Best to read up on it - see general guide here - http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/f...-Just-what-tweaks-are-needed-in-win7-with-SSD & the sticky thread in here (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18040306).
