I'm not up to date on the whole RAID lark and I'm also posting this for my girlfriend, so bear with me :p

As far as I can tell, she's got a single 300gb HDD partitioned into two volumes of equal size (149.1gb). The first partition (0) is fine, however the second (1) is coming up as "degraded" when booting up.

Neither of us set this up, it's been given to her through the dyslexia/disability group at the university.

Is it possible to set up the RAID 1 again without losing the info on her main partition?

Won't be RAID if it's a single disk. Have you opened up the case to have a look at how many there actually are?

Also, what chipset does the motherboard use?

Ah, I haven't actually opened it up so if it can't be a single disk it's more than likely going to be two :p

When I can get to it I'll have a look at the chipset :)

Sounds like the second partition/disk was once part of a mirrored array and the other half of the mirror has long since been removed. Will continue fine on the remaining disk/partition but will flag it as a degraded array as the original redundancy has been lost.

So I should be able to remove the second raided disk/partition without risk of losing data on the first disk/partition?

When your system boots up go to the RAID settings and then repair the RAID array... it should fix it :) (It may take a while)
