Delayed component cable for the Wii !!

After managing to scramble up a Wii on the 19th, this has annoyed me so much that my Wii has ended up on eBay! It's not going to be up until the new yr before you can get a Wii running on Progressive. Actually component cables are going for about $150 on ebay thats how hard they are to get.

Since this is Nintendo's vision towards moving along with techonology, firstly no HD then thinking that their Wii owners really couldn't give a hoot about wanting progressive has made me think why bother. For what I can get for my Wii, I can grab myself a Xbox360 and some games, which I am rightly doing so ! Should have my X360 next week!!! Move over Reggie and let Billy take over !

Plus the wii is hardly what I call next gen. At best current gen with a controller I can't get on with.

Make your mind up. First its because you can't get progressive, then its cos the of the controller.

Sounds like you'd be much better off with a X360 anyway doesn't it?

I just want my Wii, dont give a tosh about a component cable yet as i aint gettin a HDTV till January. So composite will do on my 15inch BUSH beauty!

There's no doubt in my mind that component will look noticeably better than composite on any HDTV. Whether some people mind, or even notice, the difference is another matter.

I've owned the recent Samsung and Toshiba sets for a while - rgb looked ok on both, component at just 480p looked a whole lot better.

But HDTVs are native progressive no ?

Im running Digital noise reduction and DNie, which helps.

I just did the paperclip component mod to my regular composite cable and its looking good. Like moving from composite to component on any AV device the fuzz goes away, bolder colours and the picture is sharper. Of course this also shows up the imperfections like the jaggies.

It'll tide me over til I get the real thing :)

On the contrary, decent TVs seem to actually display Composite better than the old days, Ive done tests on my Samsung, Component is only 1 notch up over Composite with the Gamecube, there isnt physicaly room to fit in another quality picture in between the two, the colours are virtually the same, this is a far cry from people saying Composite = 2/10 Component = 10/10, there is already people talking about not buying the Wii if no component cables are available, which is absolutely ludicrous.

Each TV converts the different signals by use of the electronics, signals can also be getting converted twice, and not all TVs are equal.
Some people are importing the Component cable at 20% the cost of the Wii, on my TV the difference isnt worth it. Some LCDs also process an interlaced signal, so some people are also going to find 480p no different.

The only TV's this won't make a massive difference on is TV's that do not support progressive scan. Any tv that does support progressive the difference is more than '1 notch' you can only run composite or base span as its otherwise known in interlace.

are you sure we're going to have to wait for it?

My order for a componant cable + points card is still showing as "expected delivery 12-14th dec" at one large online store? (they removed it from being able to order now - the same as they did when they ran out of their allocation for the Wii's).
Could it be that there are some coming to the U.K. but not many in the initial shipment?

The D cable isn't a VGA cable, it's for a system that was used in Japan for HD connections but not anywhere else (rather like the Scart socket is common in the EU but pretty rare in the U.S. etc).
If memory serves it uses a D-sub connection, which is similar to the one used for VGA, but you have to remember that it is just a connector and can carry different signal types (other common D-sub connectors are used for serial, parrallel etc connections).

wow i didnt know about the component cable situation,, I didnt even know we were gonna have a choice of connections for the wii, thought it would be scart and that was it because it didnt output in HD?? Just ordered one anyway and says delivery will be on the 8th so fingers crossed... I had the same prob with the vga cables for the 360, i ended up with four as I had place 4 different orders with different companies in desperation,,, I ended up puting the other 3 on ebay and they all went for silly money, one fetched over £100  I felt guilty about taking the poor guys cash,, Ive bought the wii for my son for christmas :D :D so wont be playing it till then,, mind you I should make sure it works when it comes shouldnt I??? :D

So how do you explain there being no difference between 480i and 480p ?

Gamespot do a comparison between Composite and Component, and my TV looks better than this with both inputs.

I think I can wait until 22-Dec-2006 to get the component cable I will get one as the link above dose show the image looking a lot sharper and I've only just noticed the christmas theme is back on in this forum. yay :o Merry Christmas

Had yet another e-mail today saying release has been put back to the 15th. So it's been 8th -> 22nd -> 8th -> 15th now. And the price has gone up, but mine is guaranteed at pre-order price. :D
