Volta is competing against Navi not Vega.
beside there is no need to shrink to a new node just yet, first revision on current one.
7nm Global foundry should be ready in 2018, making first AMD chips around 1H 2019 on 7nm.
2018 will be a rebrand year with node revision, i dont expect any new architecture before 2019.

I think when we see Volta will depend on Vega's performance. If Nvidia needs better performing cards it will be moved up, If current Nvidia gpu's are fine vs Vega then Volta will be released later.

nvidia's next generation GPU will probably be manufactured by a big chip manufacturing company.
It will probably be released within 2 years.
It will probably use the smallest fabrication process that is practical in large volumes at the time.
It will probably be more powerful than their current generation GPUs by a margin that will probably not be trivial.

In related news: water is wet.
I agree.....
On other news, Britain is an Island!!!!! Who could have thought :D

If Nvidia tries to use the same cheap crap GDDR5X memory is using on the GTX1080, TXP and 1080Ti, it will be a pile of trash compared to AMD HBM at high resolutions.

As far as I can see, there isn't any information there. What we have is speculation about which company will make the chips, speculation about the process size, speculation about the results of that process size, speculation about release dates and speculation about performance. All reasonable speculation but so generic that it would be true for almost any processor from almost any company from almost any period of time.

So...

Welcome to GPU section mate, that is like the case with like 99% of the links posted here :p

Not sure it is? I mean Volta is apparently the next arch for Nvidia where as AMD haven't even release Vega yet let alone Navi. As so much time has gone by since the Pascal launch I'm almost thinking Vega is to compete with Volta and reckon that's what the first character of the arch represents too. V(ega/olta) :D.

Vega is too late to the party to be competing with Pascal.....9 months and counting.

I think it goes without saying - I think NV are way ahead although they're both way out of sync too, so AMD may appear to catch when Vega appears but wont be too long before NV release their their next gen afterwards.
I reckon the TX spec 1080 Ti chips and decent pricing means we're not too far away- definitely think the gap between 1080 Ti and 1180 will be shorted than the 980 Ti to 1080 was.

This. SInce the 1180 is just a refresh pascal I would expect that to come out in May followed by a refreshed full chip? Titanx pascal and then another refresh Ti in the early part of new year before Volta hits in May.

Is this just non news again though. We all know companies work on the next product well in advance and the original article is full of "expects" and speculation.

Meanwhile, the GTX 20 series will be Pascal refresh GPUs to be launched within this year. The said series will be lower in prices and delivers improved performance from the GTX 10 series according to #mce_temp_url#Market Realist. The GPU market may even hear of a full-fat GP102 GPU, where GTX 1080 Ti and the Titan X were based from to be announced in the NVIDIA's GPU technology in May.

If thats the case why bother buying a 1080ti if a 2080ti will launch later this year. Doesnt say what cards will get this "refresh" so again its just air. Also if its "improved performance" again does that mean a 2080 will be 1080ti speed but cheaper hence why buy a 1080ti. Pure nonsense and speculation.

Unknown to "solidly outperform" other unknown. OK ;)

Known unkown rather than an unkown unkown.

Nividia is planing in the future to out- perform and make more money than its arch rival A.M.D. Who would have guessed?

I wonder what A.M.D's cunning plan is here and in what way it differs from Nividia's formula?

Might as well delete or lock this thread at this point. Looking forward to the next wccftech thread though :p
