I've got a couple of hard drives with various versions of windows, and most stuffed pretty full of files since I very rarely delete anything. And when I move to a new OS I just get a new hard drive, keep the old one with all my files, transfer some games over, and I can use it as a backup OS incase something happens.

Anyway, space is running short on one of the drives that has most of my games installed to, and I've got a 20Gb windows vista folder that I haven't booted up to this year. I've removed it from my bootlist, but I can't seem to delete the actual Windows folder. I've used takeown on the folder from the command prompt, and it says everything completed fine, I'm down as having full control, but I still can't delete it.

Any pointers?

When you say you can't delete it what errors does it give?

Have you tried it in safe mode?

Destination folder access denied
You need permission to perform this action.

Can't try safe mode yet because I'm streaming stuff at the moment, but will give it a shot later.

It's probably protected and whilst your logon might be the same, behind the scenes Windows will see them as totally different identities.

To change the owner to your current live profile try this;

Right Click the folder and select properties
Choose the Security tab
Click Advanced for special permissions etc
Choose the Owner tab
Change the owner to your current Windows7 logon profilename and apply
Ok/Apply everything

See if delete now works.

I'm the owner listed there. (AERO\iviv), Aero being a name I gave the PC a few months back and only used on this install, so its got to be me.

I've also used the takeown command on the folder to force ownership to me with no luck.
