Deleted files. How do I get them back?

Hello.

Yesterday, I was sorting out my files on XP and put them all in their files (School work, themes etc.) and then today I turn on my PC to find they have totally vanished.

These were in my Documents. About half of my documents has vanished which included school work, password recovery questions for various things and a whole load of other stuff.

I've tried system restore but that didn't work. Is there any other way I can get the files back?

Really annoying since I was going to back up my PC later :(

Thanks.

stop using that pc or hard drive if poss

put it in another pc

then use this program http://www.recuva.com/

its free, made by the same people as ccleaner

Hi.

I've downloaded the program (thanks) and it has found the files but it won't restore them. I've clicked recover and chose a destination but then nothing happens

Thanks.

working fine here

restore to a different drive (ie not the one you delete it from), so it doesn't try to overwrite the old data

or maybe try disabling antivirus when doing it

-edit, you are ticking the boxes next to each file yeah? (what condition are most of the files in)

Nope, still doesn't work :(

EDIT: I'm ticking the files. The condition for the files i need is 'very poor' but I've tried with files that are 'excellent' but it still doesn't work.

also, check they're not just set to 'hidden'

go to explorer, tools, folder options, look in there for "view hidden files" or whatever its called, then do a normal search for them

glad its sorted :) -i'd check the integrity of the files (see if they open ok) before praising too much! :)
