However if you do want to go for it, it's a good idea to read some guides before creating your Hero cos you don't want to start developing dead-end skills (i.e. if you want to learn how to fly, you want to concentrate on getting the appropriate earlier skills rather than something you will not use later on)
Having played this and a few others (including WoW, Eve etc) I'd agree with a previous poster that there are lots of people who play it for "fun", it doesn't have the hardcore factor that affects some of the other games (WoW for instance )
WoW drove me nuts fighting for loot in instance runs and team play, CoH is much more civilised, you play with your team and defend them through thick and thin without thinking about "well if they die i can finish him off and get the loot".
There are task forces 'instance runs' which can last 10hrs or more, but they're not really that integral to the game, you get a nice item to commenorate your victory, but its hardly essential to the game as it doesn't do anything, just says to other people you're hardcore.
If you're into the whole superheroe then definitely get it as you'll love creating your character and getting new powers, flying is sweet although not very practical being a villian i think is more fun too bank robbery for the win!
