trying to make the same choice here too,

for me its overclocked GTS vs overclock GTX,

people are getting almost 800mhz overclock on air with these GTS , you would be lucky to get 670+ on the gtx.

if 3dmarks are all you care for the new GTS would appear the better buy, if however you want a card to do what it was intended to do the GTX is a better buy and a steal at those prices.

Depends on what resolution.

Running clocks of 800/2145/2200 on a GTS, fornowagain is cutting crysis faster than his GTX.

I'll break 18k with my GTS 512mb hopefully in 06.

At 1680 x 1050 and clocks of 800/2145/2200 the GTS 512 is a fantastic card.

The 8800GTX is a better deal, in all heavy GPU games the GTX wins fairly easily at high settings and thats where you really need the extra performance, I just think the 8800GTX is balanced better.

If the 8800GTS was given a 384bit bus then it would be a fantastic card, but the 256 bit bus hurts it too much at higher resolutions/settings for the higher core speed to really be an advantage, it's basically handicaped.

For me at these prices at 1280*1024-1600*1200 the 8800GT is enough, at 1600*1200+ the 8800GTX is worth considering and the GTS sits inbetween lost somewhere.

Both are great cards now at good prices.

IMO if you game at 1680x1050 or higher with AA then go for the GTX, unless you have already owned one and fancy a change then go with the new GTS.

It's just a shame ATI doesn't have something out now like the new GTS to do battle against the GT/GTX as that would have made pricing very interesting.

If you are a low resolution gamer on a crt not adverse to simple ocing [no change of fans etc] but want full aa and af..would the gts still be the recommendation?

is gts or gtx significantly quieter at stock?

I'm in same boat, Either GTS-512 or a GTX, realistically as it's a brand new build I'm doing then I'm prob gonna stick with whatever I get for a good 12 months, already spending close to a grand as it is

If I stick with my 19" CRT or go for a new 22" LCD I see it like this :-

Upto 1600x1200 with maxed settings and max AA/AF theres nothing significant between a strong o/c GTS-512 and a mild o/c on a GTX, however the minimum fps of the GTX is better

If I go for a new 24" LCD :-

With everything maxed out and max AA/AF mild o/c GTX has def a more consistent fps and much better minimum fps than a good o/c GTS-512, even if the ave fps isn't light years ahead

Things for me is the GTS-512 has to be running 800/2000/2200 whereas you can get away with only a small o/c on the GTX, all the reviews I've read say that the GTX def provides smoother gameplay at higher res & settings, even if the benchies don't necessarily support this

I need to make a decision, but for my situation, probable 24" route etc I'm at the OCUK GTX side of the fence, just need to once and for all make a god damn decision lol

I bored myself sensless with going back and forth on what card to buy and then used the price cut on the GTX to give me a push. It's a relief not to have to think about it anymore!
